Description

The acetate version of the earliest mix of the “GET BACK” sound source, which is well-known for being broadcast on the American radio station WBCN, is now available as the latest remastered definitive title to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Get Back Session! ! The unreleased album “GET BACK” is one of the most famous Beatles rare recordings. The album later released as “LET IT BE” was supposed to be released in 1969 with such title and content. The fact that this album was simply shelved creates an unexpected byproduct. Yes, bootleg. Although “GET BACK” was never released, acetates were made for listening many times from production to completion, and as a result, acetates were passed around and became the sound source for the bootleg. “LET IT BE…NAKED”, which was initially talked about as a modern-day revival of the concept of “GET BACK”, actually uses the latest technology to connect multiple takes, and is similar to the original “GET BACK”. The result was a completely different result. As a result, the unreleased album “GET BACK” remains one of the Beatles’ valuable sound sources whose value does not fade even now, but there are roughly four types of acetate versions of the album. Among them, the three versions that have been frequently released are the first acetate and the first version compiled into the album “GET BACK”. First of all, acetate was the first material that was used to create many items during the LP era. This has not yet taken the form of “GET BACK”, and Glyn Johns, who produced it for the album, has collected takes and performances of potential recording candidates. This acetate leaked and was broadcast on an American radio station as “New Beatles”, resulting in the creation of many items. There is a theory that John Lennon was involved in the leaking process, and that he gave the disc to a journalist during a concert in Toronto (released as “LIVE PEACE IN TORONTO”). Indeed, since Acetate was broadcast on an American radio station, it had to travel across the ocean from England. In that respect, John’s line seems more likely. It’s possible that he didn’t care about the sound he had recorded, so he gave the acetate he had brought with him when he left Toronto to a journalist. John was also interviewed by journalists in Toronto. It also seems natural for a journalist to hand over the acetate they received to a radio station. At this point, no one expected it to be released as a bootleg. Best of all, the first acetate was not a complete album, nor was it ready for widespread promotional distribution. In any case, the acetate that went to America innocently got on the airwaves through multiple radio stations, resulting in masterpieces such as “KUM BACK”, “GET BACK TO TORONTO”, and “RENAISSANCE MINSTRELS VOLUME II”. It will be. As you can see from this, in the LP era, acetate, which was created before it became the “GET BACK” form, was the star sound source. However, in the CD era, the situation changed completely, and the finished product acetate compiled into “GET BACK” became familiar along with the parody jacket of their first album “PLEASE PLEASE ME”. Because of this, there are surprisingly few CDs containing the first acetate, and “POSTERS INCENSE AND STROBE CANDLES”, which was recorded from the master tape of the program by the famous label of the 1990s, VIGOTONE, has become one of a kind. Even Yellow Dog released a copy of this title with the acetate noise removed by equalization. However, nearly 20 years have passed since the VIGOTONE edition, and the first new acetate item has appeared. That is IMP’s “UNTOUCHED – OFF ELEKTRA ACETATE”. The VIGOTONE version was recorded from a program broadcast on a radio station, but this one was revolutionary in that it was recorded from the main acetate. Naturally, the sound quality was good, so GODFATHER released a copy, and in the age of the Internet, enthusiasts released a number of versions with the acetate noise removed. What these phenomena tell us is how the proposition of “UNTOUCHED – OFF ELEKTRA ACETATE” suppresses acetate noise. However, the situation was such that there was no title that could be called the definitive edition, such as the noise not being completely removed in all items, or excessive noise reduction that cut down to the original sound. As for the bonus CD-R, the noise remained and the sound was clogged, which is typical of this type of equalization. Perhaps that’s why we’ve all come to a standstill, as the number of original acetate items produced by Glyn Johns has been on the decline in recent years. However, early in the new year, a maniac who confronted this problem for the first time in a while was MasterJedi. Yes, he is the author of the masterpiece “LAST LACQUERS”, which is the culmination of the Beatles’ acetate sound sources. He clearly loves basic acetate, and he took on the challenge of overhauling “UNTOUCHED – OFF ELEKTRA ACETATE” by reducing noise and correcting over-level areas, and released “THE WBCN ACETATE” early in the new year. However, as expected from him, he was unable to completely eliminate the noise due to the amount of noise on the master disc, so it was a disappointing award. Therefore, our shop took the MasterJedi version (he also released a version where only the scratch noise was not removed) and used the latest remastering environment to carry out restoration work to completely eliminate the acetate scratch noise. The result is an ultra-clear and perfect scratch noise removal finish that keeps out past items. I never thought that the first acetate, which was full of nostalgia from the days of “KUM BACK”, could finally be heard with such clear sound quality. After 50 years since the production of the original acetate, it has finally become a definitive title that can be called a permanent preservation version. The surprising results can be clearly felt in the gentle melody of “Two Of Us” in its entirety and the silence before starting “For You Blue.” Even though there is no noise, the edges of the sound do not become unnatural, and you can enjoy the entire movie in stable, clear sound. By the way, the part before the start of the first song “Get Back” that was missing in the MasterJedi version is patched from the old “KUM BACK” LP (hence the noise), so you can feel the outstanding clarity of the main acetate version. I’m sure you’ll get it. The second disc contains a full-length version of the performance recorded on acetate from the monaural sound source of the movie “LET IT BE” filming crew. This is the first attempt on this record. It is interesting to listen to and compare not only the mono mix, but also the fact that you can hear the “raw performance” as it was recorded without going through a formal studio system. Paul’s “Teddy Boy” etc. clearly shows how Glyn Johns edited loose performances. Furthermore, “Get Back” recorded at the beginning is a take that was stopped by Johns as soon as it started playing, and the line “what?” that Paul answered there was adopted in the acetate. The limited press CD containing the first acetate in the clearest state ever recorded is enough to amaze enthusiasts all over the world, but the second one compiled from the culmination title “A/B ROAD” of the film crew sound source. It’s really interesting to be able to hear the original performance of the acetate take on the second disc. It also turns out that “Get Back”, which was later released as a single, was edited from two takes.
