The sequel title, Vol.2 of “PLEASE PLEASE ME SESSIONS: IN SPECTRAL STEREO” will be released! Please enjoy the newly reborn “From Me To You” session sound source with a stunning stereo mix! Understandably, all EMI recording session tapes were destroyed for a while after the Beatles’ debut. This is because at that time they were just a trendy pop group, and no one (not even themselves) expected that they would become so great. Once the record is completed, the rest is a waste. Of course. The fact that most of the session tapes for their first album still exist while this policy was commonplace is nothing short of a miracle. From the documentation of the work written there, the stereo sound image was corrected and released as the highly popular “PLEASE PLEASE ME SESSIONS: IN SPECTRAL STEREO”. However, this was a lucky case, and until late 1963, EMI was destroying all the session tapes. As a result, only one session tape remains for the next album “WITH THE BEATLES”, and no session tape remains for the single “She Loves You”. The session for this song, which was an early big hit and clearly shows signs of editing multiple takes, will never be revealed. In this barren situation, the session held on March 5th for the third single “From Me To You” was the only one that escaped being scrapped like a remote fox island. Surprisingly, the session tape is completely preserved here, and what’s more, it perfectly documents the same day’s session in a size that fits perfectly on one CD. At this point, EMI was still recording in 2-track stereo, and as with the first album, the performance and vocals were sharply divided into left and right, so it was recorded in a so-called tearful stereo image. Therefore, master Lord Reith performed the same localization correction as in “PLEASE PLEASE ME SESSIONS: IN SPECTRAL STEREO” this time as well. You can now enjoy the March 5th session with a natural stereo image without the discomfort of that extreme separation. From this day’s session, the official iTunes released album “BOOTLEG RECORDINGS 1963” was mainly recorded with complete takes, but the stereo image divided into left and right remains the same. This does not mean that the entire existing session can be heard, so it is natural that the content was unsatisfactory for enthusiasts. Therefore, this release is based on the complete version sound source that has been around for a while, and the stereo image has been corrected. As good as the previous “PLEASE PLEASE ME SESSIONS: IN SPECTRAL STEREO”, the stereo image reborn by Lord Reith this time is also wonderful. Thanks to the evolution of technology, the vocal balance has been moved to the center so beautifully. Still, the stereo feeling of the entire performance is maintained. Due to the nature of the sessions, some people may find the content to be maniacal as the same songs are played continuously, but I would like to say that it is a very enjoyable content as it documents the creation of the early Beatles’ hit singles. sea bream. Moreover, just like the first album, the group starts off with “Sena” in one shot, so you won’t get tired of listening to it. The session naturally starts with “From Me To You”, but the first complete performance, such as Take 2, has a slower tempo than the later performances and lacks momentum to say the least. It becomes more sophisticated as the performance continues, so it’s worth listening to. After getting the OK on take 7, we recorded the B-side, “Thank You Girl.” Once the OK take is decided, we start working on each overdubbing and editing part. Among these, the most interesting is “take 11 edit piece 4” of “From Me To You”. Here, it is surprising that the intro humming is sung not as “lalalalalalunrunrah” but as “uuuuuuunununuu”, which sounds like a growl. “From Me To You take 13 edit piece 6”, which he intentionally hummed with a hoarse voice, is enough to make you laugh, but as expected, both attempts failed. Sessions offer a glimpse of such trial and error. At this point, there was no idea to overdub harmonica on “Thank You Girl” (this was done on March 13th, but the session tape was discarded), and the two planned songs were completed. However, since there was still time left for recording these two songs, the Beatles recorded a third song. That is “One After 909”. It is one of the oldest original songs created by John and Paul, and was also included in their private recording before their debut. It was clear that the arrangement was complete and ready to record, and although Paul lost his pick and struggled to play the bass with his fingers, this one was OK with fewer takes. However, since George could not play the interlude at all, a replacement editing part for the interlude was recorded separately here as well. However, unlike the other two songs, it was shelved. In the end, it was re-recorded in 1969 and saw the light of day. An excerpt of the session scene for this song was included in “ANTHOLOGY 1”, and the completed version was also included, but it was recorded in monaural because of the unnaturalness of the stereo balance. The shelved album “SESSIONS”, which is a collection of unreleased songs recorded in a different way, is also treated in the same way. Therefore, this time, we not only corrected the stereo image of the entire session, but on top of that, Lord Reith independently edited the session sound source, and surprisingly, the different versions of these three songs that were released in monaural can now be heard in stereo. The tailored versions are collected together from track 34 onwards. Furthermore, you can enjoy the example of “From Me To You” humming’s dead idea as a virtual completed version. “One After 909” is also a version that can be enjoyed in stereo while editing the mono mix mentioned earlier. Therefore, this time it is not only a real document of the session and a real stereo sound image, but also a new stereo version that will make enthusiasts grin.
