The Beatles Anthology, which chronologically traces the history of The Beatles from their formation to their breakup through rare recordings and live performances, was released in 1995 as a documentary project consisting of video footage, books, and a trilogy of albums. The trilogy of albums mainly includes numerous studio outtakes, demo recordings, existing TV broadcasts, and live recordings of concerts, and also includes new songs “Free as a Bird” and “Real Love” based on recordings left by John Lennon, which attracted worldwide attention. Three types of 2CDs were released in succession from VOL.1 to VOL.3, and included previously unknown debut recordings and unreleased songs, which shocked Beatles collectors at the time and attracted their attention. Over the past 20 years, more and more recording sources have been unearthed, and many recordings, including those that were not included in 1995, have evolved to be closer to the original sound, unedited, and have improved in quality. Remastering technology has also advanced, further improving sound quality. Mono sound sources have also been converted to real stereo using the latest AI sound source analysis, and unprecedented attempts have also evolved. While following the original anthology trilogy, “Complete Works” is basically re-edited based on the best sound source at the moment. It is an expanded and revised version that replaces episodes and versions longer than the original. As a sound source collection that chronologically traces the history of The Beatles, it covers all the basic rare sound sources and also includes newly excavated sound sources, making it a highly recommended and noteworthy series that can be said to be the latest edited version that is ideal for beginners to collectors. CD1 contains outtakes from the album “Help!” from the session of the single “Ticket for Tears/Yes It Is”. The sound quality of the unreleased songs “If You’ve Got Trouble” and “That Means a Lot” has also improved by changing from mono to real stereo. The original only had one take of “That Means a Lot,” but this one includes a clip of them trying out completely different arrangements and repeating trial and error. The outtakes of “Blow Away Your Sadness” and “It’s Only Love” are also in real stereo. The live performance in Paris in 1965 is in stereo, and the 1965 Hollywood Bowl performance is also recorded with a different sound source than the official release. CD2 includes session recordings from the albums “Rubber Soul” and “Revolver,” where studio recordings began in earnest. Not only has the selection of songs increased significantly compared to the original, but the monaural sound sources have also been changed to real stereo. Additional demo recordings that were not included on the original, such as “Let’s Hold on to Love,” “Michelle,” and “Eleanor Rigby,” are included. The live performance at the Budokan is in real stereo. The album concludes with the final performance, “Long Tall Sally,” at Candlestick Park, the final performance on record. The content has been greatly expanded with representative studio outtakes, demos, and live performances.
