Nostalgic…so nostalgic. The Beatles’ immortal documentary “ANTHOLOGY” was broadcast in Japan on New Year’s Eve in 1995. New Year’s Eve is the day when Japan’s national TV programs are extremely popular, and it would be unthinkable now that “ANTHOLOGY” was broadcast in competition with them (in fact, the viewership ratings were a crushing defeat to the national TV programs). For such Japanese Beatles enthusiasts, a dream event came true on New Year’s Eve in 1995. “ANTHOLOGY” was later officially released on VHS and DVD, but before it was released as software, it was first shown on television broadcasts in various countries around the world. Moreover, the version broadcast in Japan on New Year’s Eve included unique and nostalgic productions from the opening, which could only be seen on that broadcast. Therefore, even if “ANTHOLOGY” itself can be seen on the official release, the broadcast from 1995 can only be seen with materials recorded at the time…someone brave enough to upload such a nostalgic version to YouTube. There is a limit to how long a broadcast can be uploaded to YouTube, and some scenes have been cut at the discretion of the video owner. Basically, scenes from each movie have been cut, and even live scenes from the Ed Sullivan Show and Shea Stadium have been cut. Even so, scenes such as the July 1st Budokan and Blackpool in 1965 are included, which may be the result of the video owner’s preferences. However, the main body of “ANTHOLOGY” can be seen in the official items mentioned above, so it is not a problem. Rather, all the parts added at the time of the essential Japanese broadcast are included. Not only the opening, but also the report on visiting Strawberry Field inserted between episodes of the movie “HELP!”, and the ending are perfect. At the end, the commercials that were sandwiched between the broadcasts at that time are also included, which is also very nostalgic. And of course the unique Japanese production, but the translation of the lyrics that were also added to the song scenes in an easy-to-understand interpretation that is typical of TV stations is also very tasteful.
