To celebrate the official release of “The Beatles Anthology” in 1995, the five-and-a-half-hour special program that aired on Japanese TV on New Year’s Eve that year has been released on DVD in its entirety, including commercials for the first time ever. While previously available in fragments on YouTube and elsewhere, this DVD boasts undeniably high-definition footage, clocking in at 5 hours and 27 minutes in total. While most previous releases, such as those dubbed from VHS, have featured mono audio, this release boasts solid stereo audio. Additionally, each Beatles song and interview is subtitled, unlike the later official releases, which lacked lyric subtitles. This, along with the commercials from the time, makes this a nostalgic masterpiece for fans who actually watched the show on New Year’s Eve.
