Description
There was a fan label called REMASTER WORKSHOP that specialized in remastering Beatles bootlegs. It was active for over ten years, but unfortunately it seems to have stopped in recent years. The label’s specialty is releasing bootleg LPs from the past on CD. Under the concept of wanting to listen to nostalgic analog items on CD, they adjusted scratch noise and pitch errors, and actively remastered both great and bad records and continued to release files. This item is also a nostalgic LP remaster title created by REMASTER WORKSHOP. First of all, this LP, released in 1978, is an edited version that gradually recorded new Beatles recordings that were beginning to be unearthed at the time. The opening features a completely different vocal take of Paul’s “Oh! Darling,” which was a shocking opening at the time. Furthermore, the ending of “Her Majesty” was recorded without interruption until the end, and the session of Paul and Donovan can be called a preview of the recordings that would later be released on the LP “NO.3 ABBEY ROAD NW8”. Also, since the solo activities after the breakup of the Beatles were happening in real time, the B-side of the album is a collection of the members’ solo TV and radio recordings, which reflects the times. The album includes recordings that were only heard for the first time at the time of release, such as Ringo’s appearance in a Japanese commercial, John’s last live TV appearance, and “Bye Bye Love” that George played during a break when he performed on TV with Paul Simon (naturally, this was an audience recording), and these are also the reason why it is called a masterpiece. However, this is a typical 1970s bootleg, and in between, fake recordings and songs by artists other than the Beatles are recorded to fill in the gaps. For example, “Help!” was recorded with one channel picked up from the speaker, and “Homecoming Queen” by an artist named Kenny O’Dell was recorded as an unreleased Wings song. Furthermore, both are elaborate because they are pretending to be monitor mixes in the studio. And the best part is “Every Little Thing” where a lead guitar was added without permission. It is true that George was late to record the song and couldn’t play the lead guitar, but the back cover had a ridiculous credit saying “George is singing”. It is also well known that “Peace Of Mind” was used on various LPs as an outtake of Sgt. Pepper. It is certainly an item that was treated as a masterpiece because it included groundbreaking new sound sources at the time, but when you listen to it again like this, it seems to be quite a questionable production. In the past, when this album was released on CD, there was a version where all the fake sound sources were replaced with the original take, but here, the appeal is that these fakes and other artists’ performances are left intact, and yet they are recorded in a very clean state from the LP. And as a bonus, the famous “Homecoming Queen” is included in a complete and clean state! Beatles – 20 x 4 remastered edition (44:27) 1. Oh!
