Description
BB&A was a super trio that disappeared from rock history after a short life of about 1 year and 4 months from 1972 to 1974. They didn’t start out as a trio. Initially, the rhythm section of the 2nd JEFF BECK GROUP changed and joined Tim Bogart and Carmine Appice, and after performing live shows with repeated member changes, they settled into a trio format. And the trio was completed from the European tour in September 1972. This work is an audience album containing the 11th performance of the European tour, “Frankfurt performance on October 8, 1972.” In this early stage, there is also a performance in Amsterdam on September 30th, but unfortunately the sound quality is poor. There were also two types of this Frankfurt performance, and there were also existing ones such as “WHY SHOULD I CARE” and “GETREADY TO LIVE” with long recording times but poor sound quality. This work is different from those and is not a complete recording, but the sound is very good and is a master that was once released as part of “CHANGE OF PHASE”. That sound is truly representative of the early days. The first half of “Superstition” at the beginning is a bit noisy, but it quickly improves and the sound is clear and direct. This direct feeling is what is best for a trio, and you can clearly hear the ensemble’s three individualities not clumping together, unraveling and intertwining, then separating and colliding again. And the performance drawn with that sound is amazing. The versatile and powerful beats that were featured in VANILLA FUDGE / CACTUS, the phantasmagorically undulating bass, and Jeff’s phrases that make you burst out with joy at having found the powerful rhythm team you’ve always wanted. The super play is breathtaking just by following each instrument, and they enhance each other as they empathize with each other. It’s a masterpiece because it’s a gathering of geniuses who can’t help but recognize each other through “music” and “performance,” and the timing of their encounter is so striking. Seven months after this work, “LIVE IN JAPAN”, which was also made official, was born, and eight months later, BB&A collapsed along with “RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW”. This work, “LIVE IN JAPAN” and “RAINBOW 1974 1ST SHOW” are also live albums that represent the very early, middle, and final stages of BB&A.
