Description
Another surprising live video from Manchester’s Granada TV, where rare footage of vintage live performances by Simon & Garfunkel and Kate Bush continues to be discovered! This time, we present a rare video that will shock rock enthusiasts from all over the world, including a rare studio live performance by Badfinger, a band under the Beatles’ Apple Records. Badfinger is a group with rare live footage, but what makes the video released this time so valuable is that it is a video of a pure live performance. There are records of their TV appearances from 1970 to 1971, when they came into the limelight with the hits “Come And Get It” and “No Matter What,” but most of them are lip-sync recordings that give you a sense of the times. Or at karaoke, only singing live. However, their stage performance filmed by Granada TV in 1972 is not only a pure live performance, but is also extremely valuable as a capture of them at their peak. In 1972, Granada TV planned a music program called “SET OF SIX” to broadcast live performances by up-and-coming British bands. There, they mixed in with groups like Pentangle and ELO, and even Badfinger became popular with them. The timing of this recording was perfect, as it was one month before the 1972 edition of “BBC IN CONCERT”, which was later officially released and made known the greatness of Badfinger’s live performance, was recorded. That’s what it means. What’s more, it is very valuable to be able to see the performance of the big hit song “Day After Day” which was not performed on the BBC at the opening, but the heated performances of the surprisingly hard “Suitcase” and “Better Days” are just right. It’s so great that you might want to call it the BBC video version. After Badfinger made their breakthrough in 1970, the band’s performance improved significantly through steady live activities the following year. The result was the BBC and this video. In terms of timing, it is about half a year after the release of that masterpiece “STRAIGHT UP”, so it is also attractive that songs from the same album are featured abundantly in the 30-minute time frame. For example, things that can only be seen at this time, such as Pete Ham singing “Take It All” carefully while playing the piano. At the same time, it concludes with the signature song “No Matter What”, which is unique to the peak of the album. The value of this video is also very high in that you can see the complete live performance of the same song. However, it is also a standard live video that has been popular among Badfinger enthusiasts for about 10 years on YouTube in separate versions for each song (due to upload restrictions at the time). Five years ago, a version of the entire show, including the ending song “Johnny B. Goode,” finally appeared on YouTube, but that version was unfortunately no longer available. However, this version has a super clear image quality that is completely different from those past YouTube takes. Is it possible for it to be officially released like this? The high quality that seems like it will leave enthusiasts all over the world stunned. By the way, how clear is the image quality? Similarly to Kate Bush’s unearthed video “MANCHESTER 1979”, which astounded enthusiasts around the world, this time too there is a time code in the upper left of the screen, but as her video demonstrated, , With this size and location, it doesn’t feel stressful to watch (lol). In fact, I think that fact supports its exceptional quality. I can’t really complain because I can watch live performances of their famous songs in the highest quality. And “Johnny B. Goode”, which was played a little during the end credits and sung by Joey Morland, is also included in the complete recording, including the video. The appearance of the group is quickly hidden behind the title background, and the performance itself quickly fades out, but it is a joy for enthusiasts to be able to see scenes that have long been heard only in audio. Although it is a live video of less than 30 minutes (therefore it was released on DVD-R this time), it is packed with the charm of Badfinger as a live band. And again, the image quality is too clear. This is the best live video of British rock from the early 70’s that I fully recommend not only to Badfinger enthusiasts but to all rock fans!
