Description

A must-see video from Blue Oyster Cult’s US tour after the release of “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN”! 1981 was the year when most of the band’s representative hits were released. You can enjoy the official quality of the performance at the Hollywood Sportatorium in Florida on October 9th, which was the latter half of the tour that year! Since the release of “MIRRORS” in 1979, Blue Oyster Cult (hereinafter referred to as B.O.C.) has been aiming for a sophisticated and melodic musicality. This direction came to fruition in 1981’s “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN”, produced by Martin Birch, and became a masterpiece that combined drama and a heavy world of songs with catchy music at a high level. However, Albert Bouchard, the drummer and one of the important songwriters, had doubts about the direction of the band, which was gradually becoming more pop-oriented, and he repeatedly behaved strangely, such as arriving late to or missing live shows, and was fired from the band during the UK tour. The band continued the tour with Rick Downey, who had been the drummer in Albert’s absence, as his replacement. The Florida performance recorded on this album is a representative live performance from the second leg of the ’81 US tour, which took place after this member change. The reason why it is “representative” is that this live performance was broadcast on television (on the local television station “BLUE JEAN NETWORK”), and the officially recorded audio material is used in the live album “EXTRATERRESTRIAL LIVE”. The audio sources officially adopted include the band’s early “The Red And The Black”, “Joan Crawford”, “Burnin’ For You”, and “Veterans Of The Psychic Wars” “FIRE OF UNKNOWN ORIGIN” numbers. In addition, a total of seven songs, including “E.T.I.”, “Godzilla”, and “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper”. Don’t think, “What? They’re all classic songs, and you can listen to them officially.” Even in familiar songs, there are many scenes that you will never know, which is a nice point of this work, and it does not tire the fans. Starting with the interview at the beginning where all the members talk happily, the combination of the three front members Eric and Donald that can be seen in “E.T.I.” (Eric also plays the keyboard!), and Alan playing the piano intro in “Joan Crawford” will leave a vivid impression on the fans. As you can see in Eric’s MC, even the mirror ball shining on the stage is vivid in “Veterans Of The Psychic Wars” provided for the movie “HEAVY METAL”! In “Godzilla”, the figure of “Godzilla” (a monster that seems to be) emitting smoke behind the drum riser, and in “Born To Be Wild”, Eric’s Harley appears as the highlight of the show, entertaining not only the fans at the venue but also us in the present day. On the other hand, “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” shows the depth of the band by captivating the listeners with the wonderful performance that permeates even without stage production. Although the video has a slight VTR-like feel, there is no color bleeding or blurring of the outline compared to the previously known materials, and the quality is such that anyone can be convinced that it is the highest level master. It is definitely the best image quality and sound quality ever for a same-day video. Although B.O.C. has many line sound sources, professional shot videos are still limited.
