Description

The legendary vintage live performance of “New York’s cold madness” BLUE OYSTER CULT is revived with a newly discovered superb soundboard master! Approximately 75 minutes of recording of their performance in Detroit, Illinois, on February 4, 1973, at the time of their 2nd album “TYRANNY AND MUTATION” release. This is a must-listen for American rock enthusiasts who will experience the chaotic underground sound for themselves! BLUE OYSTER CULT (hereinafter referred to as B.O.C.), whose career spans over 50 years, is hot right now. Since the beginning of 2020, they have released official live works one after another, and are also preparing to release their first studio album in about 20 years. In recent years, they have been considered a “live only” band, so many fans will be happy to see them return. Therefore, two surprising 1973 live recordings will be released at the same time! This work will be performed in Detroit on February 4th. The original sound source unearthed this time is an air check master broadcast by Detroit’s local radio station “WABX”. This live itself is a standard sound source that we have previously introduced as “TYRANNY IN DETROIT”. However, this time, the contents are completely different. The 1st generation master of that “JEMS Archives” was excavated and digitized by the prestigious sound source team “Krw_co”. If you are a seasoned enthusiast, you will be able to understand the “quality of the sound source” just by looking at the letters “JEMS” and “Krw_co”! I exaggerated the quality of the sound source, but of course what makes it amazing is the main character, B.O.C. Let’s take a look back at the band at the time. The band was formed in 1967. Initially called SOFT WHITE UNDERBELLY 1968 Joined Eric Bloom 1971 Used the name BLUE OYSTER CULT from their September live performance January 16, 1972: Released debut album “BLUE OYSTER CULT” Performed all over the United States from February to December Tour (88 performances in total). January-February 1973 North American tour #1 (6 performances) February 4th Detroit performance “DETROIT 1973”←★This work is here February 11th 2nd album “TYRANNY AND MUTATION” released March-December North American tour #2 (92 performances) October 8th Cleveland performance “SOUNDBOARD COLLECTION” (Disc-1) December 31st New York performance ←★This simultaneous release and more are the rough traces of the band from its formation until the end of 1973. When they first formed, they didn’t get a great response, and the band’s name changed several times in a short period of time. However, they continued to perform live together with unique artists such as MAHAVISHNU ORCHESTRA and ALICE COOPER, and as they refined their performance skills and worldview, they became a hot topic in the underground scene. This sound source is the band’s most underground and “B.O.C. era”, vacuum packed in the best possible condition. [Taste the legendary live performance of early B.O.C. with the finest vintage sound] The charm of this work is the mellow vintage sound that drips with flavor! It goes without saying that good visibility, good musical tonal balance, and ease of listening are all major prerequisites. With that added bonus, the tape has a deep, warm mellowness that turns it amber. Early B.O.C. live shows have been described by enthusiasts as “basement rituals.” The moisture that oozes from the sound and the indescribable taste are just like the basement sound. Specifically, if you imagine BLACK SABBATH’s masterpiece “BRUSSELS 1970” from the same period, you will understand the meaning and awesomeness of this sound source. From “The Red And The Black”, which follows the opening MC introducing the band, Eric’s high-tension singing and guitar playing are full of energy. In “Transmaniacon MC” and “Screams,” which have a free jam feel, Donald Loser and Alan Rainier weave a unique B.O.C. world. The grooves of “7 Screaming Diz-Busters” and “Buck’s Boogie” will make your body move when you listen to them. The live climax is “Cities On Flame With Rock & Roll” and “It’s Not Easy,” which boldly feature Albert Bouchard’s singing and solos. The latter is a cover of The Rolling Stones, but the performance is unbearably heavy and different from the original. Although it’s over 18 minutes long, Joe Bouchard’s driving playing, including his bass, is a great listen! Among the works containing early B.O.C. live performances, the official “ON YOUR FEET OR ON YOUR KNEES” and the masterpiece “LIVE IN THE WEST 1975” are standard, but they are from the time of the release of the 3rd album “SECRET TREATIES”. At this point, the band had finished its early days and was slowly undergoing a transformation. This work is a book that revives in its best condition the live performance of the previous stage, when the band was wearing legendary colors. 75 minutes of B.O.C.’s live show in 1973, when they had the strongest “basement smell”. SBD in very good condition even though it is from the very early days of BOC (the 1973 sound source was once released on “Soundboard Archives”, but it was in October). Recorded at 75 minutes, the longest of the early live performances. The October sound source listed above is 45 minutes long. JEMS Master Krw-co Transfer’s 1st generation. The history of the master is also clear. Live at The Rooster Tail, Detroit, MI, USA 4th February 1973 STEREO SBD (75:47) 1. WABX Intro 2. The Red & The Black 3. Transmaniacon MC 4. Screams 5.
