Description

“THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” is a progressive rock festival where family bands gather together. The latest and best live set is now available. The dream tour is currently in progress, but this work includes the “Lewiston performance on June 25, 2019.” This is an audience set that mainly includes the best live albums of YES and ASIA among the four groups that appeared, and also includes a collection of highlight videos of three groups, including CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY. We have been reporting on the live album since the beginning of the tour. This work follows “BETHLEHEM 2019” and “WHITE PLAINS 2019”. First, let’s look at the positional relationship of each part from the overall picture of “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR”.・June 12th “BETHLEHEM 2019” ・June 14th-18th (4 performances) ・June 20th “WHITE PLAINS 2019” ・June 21st-24th (3 performances) ・June 25th: Lewiston Performances [This work] – June 27th – July 21st (14 performances) >>Now here<< – July 24th – 28th (4 performances) [ASIA + YES’s finest live album 3-disc set] First to appear This is the main 3-disc live album. This tour is a circuit with four groups in the order of CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY → John Lodge → ASIA → YES, but this work is the latter two groups. Disc 1 is the undercard of ASIA, and disc 2 is the full recording of Tori’s YES. And the quality is overwhelming. “BETHLEHEM 2019” on the first day was also excellent, but this work is even more amazing. Anyway, the on-core is intense, and there is no sense of distance, and the performance and singing voice are close to each other…or should I say close contact. The sound of the hall is so faint that it can only be discerned by listening carefully with headphones, and the atmosphere is crystal clear. The bass sounds are vivid, even the crunchy feel of the bass, and the treble sounds with the sparkling synths are also very beautiful. While everything is clear, the vocals are especially moving. As a matter of fact, the vocals in “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” felt a little far away, not only in the two songs I have introduced so far, but in this work, they are right in front of you. The sound that makes me especially happy is ASIA. After all, this time they have been reborn with Ron “Bumblefoot” Searle joining the band, so it’s great to be able to hear his singing voice so clearly. He is known as one of the greatest guitar heroes of our time, but his singing voice is reminiscent of John Wetton. Moreover, thanks to him, the famous songs have regained their original shine in the original key. Of course, the guitar also interweaves unique phrases, and although it is technical, it has a great sense of stability. Well, I’m impressed that you can sing a song that was written to suit someone else’s throat and still be able to play it this well. Moreover, perhaps because the sound is good or because of the number of places, it is more polished than ever. The fine nuances of the singing are also on point, and the singing is dignified and powerful. I felt like the previous recordings lacked moisture, but this work is truly comparable to Wetton. It’s long since it’s all about ASIA, but the YES section is also intense. Since it is the main act, the sound output is even better, and it can only be called “like a sound board”. It’s a shame that “Onward” and “Rhythm of Love” were dropped and the song became a little shorter, but perhaps that’s why the ensemble is even tighter. “No Opprtunity Necessary, No Experience Needed” is dynamic, and the full performance of the much-talked-about “The Gates of Delirium” and John Lennon’s cover “Imagine” can be enjoyed with the best sound ever. . [Video collection of 3 families] Following such a superb live album is a video version of the same show. This is a digest recording of several songs each from three groups including CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY, and the balance is CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY (2 songs) + ASIA (4 songs, 5 takes) + YES (4 songs). Since the images for each song are combined from three cameras, it is not possible to express the angles and camera work in one go, but the quality is top-notch. The wide field of view with no obstructions and the clear image quality made possible by the latest digital equipment are simply overwhelming. All three groups have plenty to see, but the one that is especially must-see is CARL PALMER’S ELP LEGACY. This time, they welcomed the famous Arthur Brown as a guest vocalist, and this album also includes their signature song “Fire”. The sight of him rocking his flashy headgear and barking in a fell set is truly impressive. Furthermore, ASIA is also amazing. After all, the main camera is a front row shot, and it’s a very close shot from the camera pit’s perspective. The figure of Bumblefoot singing beautifully while playing double neck is right in front of you. Although it’s a shame that it’s only four songs short, I’m glad that the three songs in “Roman to Time” are included: “Wildest Dreams,” “Only Time Will Tell (2 takes),” and “Heat of the Moment.” You can enjoy the mini-reunion in which Steve Howe also appeared from a special seat perspective. ASIA + YES’s 3-disc live album, which has the best sound ever, and a digest video collection that shows you the “other side” of the famous recording. This is a 4-disc set where you can experience “THE ROYAL AFFAIR TOUR” with a delicious lineup and set. It may be difficult, but it’s a progressive paradise that I can’t help but want to see in Japan.
