Description

From the latest joint tour of 2009 between Yes, with Chris Squire back, and the original Asia, the Gibson Amphitheater performance on July 7 in Los Angeles was completely recorded with a super high-quality audience recording for about three hours, making this a must-listen 3-disc set for fans. Of course, Steve Howe participated in both bands, and at both live performances, Howe gave a great, satisfying performance. Of course, Roundabout was not played in the Asia set, but numbers such as Video Killed The Radio Star, In The Court Of The Crimson King, and Fanfare For The Common Man (with drum solo) were played in full as before. In Fanfare, Jeff’s keyboard color scheme is wonderful, and Howe’s guitar entanglement is also nice. (The sound fluctuates at the beginning of the 2-minute mark.) It is like a prog festival that is devoted to entertainment, but the compact set of about an hour, which is filled with historical masterpieces including Asia’s early numbers, is a perfect listening score and is very enjoyable from start to finish. An Extraordinary Life from “Phoenix” and Don’t Cry, an acoustic version that was well received on the previous tour, are also great listening spots. Benoit continues to be the vocalist for Yes, as he did last year’s tour, and he gives a stable performance throughout. The band ensemble is in good condition, and he fascinates the listeners with a safe performance. Benoit’s vocals in I’ve Seen All Good People are more precise than last year, and he is fully substituting for John. Chris’ MC in Tempus Fugit and Howe’s MC in Astral Traveler are the same as last year. Oliver’s organ sound has a great effect in Astral Traveler, and the band also plays energetically to liven up the song. And You And I has Howe’s guitar sound in the intro output with a great sound. Benoit’s vocals are faked, but he sings in his own way, which is nice. On this day, Howe performed a solo performance of To Be Over, which was rare. In the second half of the show, you can enjoy some exciting performances with a slightly short set such as Lonely Heart and Machine Messiah. Finally, this wonderful live show will be closed with three consecutive Yes classics. A must-listen three-disc set that captures the first joint tour of Asia and Yes’ dreams with the highest sound quality is now available. Live at Gibson Amphitheater, Universal City, Los Angeles, CA.
