Description
“ASIA IN ASIA” was realized only in Japan with Greg Lake. The apex stereo soundboard and pro shot are now available as an upgrade beyond the summit. The apex record is the “December 6th + 7th 1983: Nippon Budokan” performance. There was an FM broadcast on “December 6th”, and a TV broadcast and official video work on “December 7th”. Countless existing groups were born based on them, but the apex of them was “DEFINITIVE SOUNDBOARD MASTERS” and “ASIA IN ASIA LASER DISC EDITION” which appeared in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of “ASIA IN ASIA”. The extremely perfect quality that easily surpasses the existing groups was highly praised, and it sold out and was discontinued in an instant. It was a major decision board that has been requested for reissue for a long time. This work brushes up those soundboards and pro shots again. It is a three-disc set with the live albums of “December 6th and 7th” on discs 1-2 and the pro shots of “December 7th” on disc 3. Let’s take a closer look at each disc. [Disc 1: December 6th Stereo Soundboard Album] This work is not just a reissue of three discs. Each sound source and video has been polished again and again to “surpass the peak”. Among them, this disc 1 is the one that you can feel the most upgraded. It is a stereo soundboard created from the broadcast master three-disc LP “WESTWOOD ONE 3LP LIVE VINYL BOXSET – SUPERSTAR CONCERT SERIES -” which is in the best condition like the previous work “DEFINITIVE SOUNDBOARD MASTERS”. From the previous work, it has realized the ultimate freshness and beautiful sound that thoroughly removes scratch noise because it is a direct broadcast master. It surpassed all the existing works and received great acclaim that “This is perfect!” However, this work has gone even further. What I mean is that the previous work “Perfect Perfection” was a perfect broadcast. The original sound was transferred perfectly and it was completely noiseless. The DJ comments at the beginning and after “Here Comes The Feeling”, and the corporate sponsorship and program production staff readings at the end of “Sole Survivor” were all recorded for the first time without cuts, making it “perfect”. However, even though the FM sound was perfectly reproduced, it was not at the official work level. In fact, the next day of the other broadcast, “December 7th”, had a more official sound, and when I listened to it in succession, I thought “After all, the 7th was more amazing”. So in this work, the remastering was done based on the previous work’s complete master, aiming for a “complete official level”. It was upgraded to be tougher. Of course, the sound pressure was not just increased randomly, but each range was carefully examined and the balance of the sound was adjusted. The gaps between the instruments were also depicted with a vivid three-dimensional effect. As a result, the sound sounded clearer and the performance sound felt tougher. Of course, there is no peak over chatter, and the sound is dynamic and sharp, yet beautiful and elegant. It is a sound that goes beyond the top, beyond the “perfect”. [Disc 2: December 7th Stereo Soundboard Album] The following disc 2 is the finest soundboard of “December 7th”, which was highly praised in the previous work as “amazing” and “higher quality than the official version”. Although it is not as remarkable a change as disc 1, as it was said to be “more than the official product” in the previous work, it was also scrutinized and upgraded. In fact, disc 1 has become too good, and it has (slightly) exceeded the previous disc 2. Of course, this has also been raised to the same level, and it is a finish that does not feel strange even when listening to two discs through. The beautiful sound is exactly the official class. The guitar can even feel the vibration of the strings, the subtle vibration of the hi-hat, the rich sound and sharp edge of the toms and bass drums, and Greg’s voice is not just one word but one syllable… everything is more real and direct than ever before. Although it is called “official” in a word, it is a matter of quality, but if the previous work is a dimension that can be “officially released”, this work is a dimension that “should be released if it is true”. It is a masterpiece that deserves to be called a masterpiece sound even in the official world. [Disc 3: Laser Disc Pro Shot on December 7th] The last disc 3 is a multi-camera pro shot that can be said to be a symbol of “ASIA IN ASIA”. It is the highest peak version in history. There are three types of pro shots on this day: “live broadcast version”, “video version”, and “laser disc version”, and this work is reproduced from the Japanese laser disc “SM058-0002”, which is the highest peak among them. Our shop has partnered with overseas analog specialist manufacturers to reproduce many laser discs, and this work is also of the highest quality that makes full use of its track record and experience. No matter how many praises there are, the quality is not enough. It is natural that the resolution of VHS video is different from other media standards, but when you actually see it, you can’t help but sigh. The colors are too vivid for the sensibility that I was familiar with from video transcription, and the sound feels like it’s getting closer to the front…it’s the ultimate. The “live broadcast version” and “video version” are different not only in terms of quality, but also in content. First of all, the cut is different from the “live broadcast version”. For example, the beginning of “Only Time Will Tell”. In the “live broadcast version”, the shot switches from the back of the stage to a camera near the members, but in this official version, it remains fixed for a while. In the second half of the song, there is a close-up of two audience members who seem to be college students, but in the “live broadcast version” it is twice, and in this work it is only once. In the following “Open Your Eyes”, Steve changes guitar after finishing the second verse of the lyrics, but in the “live broadcast version” it is a moving camera on the stage, and in this work it is a long shot. These differences can be seen throughout the whole work. You may think that this is a small detail, but when these small differences are accumulated throughout the whole film, the impression changes greatly. Of course, since they took the time to make the changes from the live broadcast, the work is more complete. It is a more work-like image. These cuts are for the product and are common to the “video version”. What is different from the “video version” is the subtitles. For example, the “video version” had subtitles of the song titles, such as “Eternal Glitter” and “The Heat Goes On”, but the laser disc does not have any of them. The handwritten-style subtitles in the “video version” also have a sense of the era and are wonderful, but this is a matter of preference. Of course, there is no sense of incongruity in this work without subtitles, and the screen occupied by “only the stage” and “only ASIA” is the best. It is truly “beyond the summit”. It is a three-disc set that transcends the dimension of “complete reproduction of the original source” of the previous work, maximizes the potential of the original, and even takes into consideration the unity of the set, making it the “ultimate update”. This is the best performance ever of the ephemeral “Greg Lake & AISA” that was only realized in Japan.
