Description

The news that the “Queen of Soul” Aretha Franklin passed away from cancer on August 16, 2018, has caused sad voices to be raised from fans and artists around the world. Her precious live performances from the 60s to the 70s and up to her later years in 2017 are all compiled in master quality, professional shot footage. Starting with the TV shows in 1964 and 1965, the early days of her career, followed by the show in Stockholm on May 2, the first day of the 1968 European tour, the live performance at the peak of her career when she earned the name “Queen of Soul” is the biggest highlight of this title. Here, with a set list consisting of early masterpieces unique to this period, such as “Lady Soul” and “I Never Loved a…”, she performs a performance worthy of the queen of lady soul. The wonderfulness of the content is comparable to the masterpiece “The Fillmore Concert” and “Live 1972” excavated by Rhino. In the 1970s, she also performed at the Olympia Theater in Paris on June 21, 1971, three months before her famous 1971 Fillmore West concert with King Curtis, and showed off her best performance of the Atlantic era. And the 1976 US:TV “Midnight Special” was a mature performance in which she had established her position as a leading female soul singer, and since the 1980s, she has become more pop-oriented, so it became a culmination of her gospel soul period. And as a bonus, she recorded seven songs from her later performance in Philadelphia on August 26, 2017, with audience shots, and the last performance is a short one from her appearance at the AIDS charity event hosted by Elton John on November 7 of the same year, which is said to be her last performance in an official venue. This is a permanent memorial item that lasts a total of 2 hours and 20 minutes, looking back on the performance of Aretha, who was ranked number one in Rolling Stone magazine’s “100 Greatest Singers of All Time,” the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who continued to lead the pop world for over 50 years, and who became a symbol of powerful women, the women’s liberation movement, and the civil rights movement.
