Description

These two classic studio albums by the Allman Brothers Band, produced during the lifetime of Duane Allman, a guitarist admired by Clapton himself, are once again available in clean transfers from a miraculous premium item: a US original, a “Promotional Copy” pressed earlier than general distribution, produced at the label’s main plant, Presswell, and with a perfect first-press “A/B” matrix. This is the band’s second album, which marked a major evolution in the band’s sound from their debut! This superb condition ensures the freshness of the master tapes is preserved in the highest quality possible! Also available on CD is the mega-rare promo pressing of “IDLEWILD SOUTH,” the second album and the masterpiece that established the Allman Brothers’ “Southern Rock” sound! Naturally, this album also had a promo pressing produced at the label’s main plant, Presswell, in New Jersey. In fact, even this promo pressing is extremely difficult to obtain. While it certainly sold better than the first album, it’s still like comparing two chestnuts. This title makes mint-condition promo copies extremely difficult to obtain. Finding a copy in decent condition on the secondhand market is a daunting task, and even when it does appear, crackling and popping is a given. Even the original copy is difficult to find, but this first-press promo copy presents even greater challenges. Meanwhile, “IDLEWILD SOUTH” miraculously achieved a meticulous transfer from a mint-condition promo copy (naturally pressed at the label’s main Presswell plant, with the same matrix as the first-press “A/B”!). As you’d expect, “IDLEWILD SOUTH” is impressive for its refined sound, a major leap from the raw sound of the debut album. The opening track “Revival” and “Midnight Rider,” one of the album’s signature tracks, feature striking acoustic arrangements. Because of this, scratch noise is highly noticeable on analog LPs for these two tracks, which have many quiet passages. In fact, many people have listened to them despite the noise. However, this time, the transfer is once again astonishingly clean. From the intro of the opening track, “Revival,” there’s no scratch noise at all, no matter how loud you turn up the volume! And yet, the sound quality itself is so fresh and natural. Listening to these two acoustic tracks, the difference in sound quality compared to the current remastered CD is overwhelmingly clear. Not only are they clear and natural, but the “airiness” these two tracks exude is also clearly palpable. This airy feeling is completely different from the current CD. You’ll be amazed, wondering if this is the original sound from the master tape recorded in 1970. The difference is also clear with “In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed,” the greatest track from “IDLEWILD SOUTH.” Indeed, the current remastered CD technology is a perfect match for the Allmans’ performance, just like the first album, delivering a powerful performance befitting the CD era. However, the 1970 promo disc surpasses the previous release in its exquisite clarity and naturalness. Turn up the volume to truly experience it, as if you were actually in the recording studio listening to the Allmans perform. The difference is simply incredible. This masterpiece, their second album, marked a major leap forward before the legendary “AT FILLMORE EAST.” Once again, the disc captures the authentic sound that could only be experienced in 1970 with astonishing clarity. Experience the naturalness of the original promo disc, a quality you’ll never experience with current remasters, featuring beloved tracks like “Midnight Rider” and “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed.” We promise you a premium listening experience with the finest sound quality!
