Description

The San Francisco performance on August 23, 1984 was recorded with a superb audience recording. The ideal sound image with the best balance of the band sound and the audience perfectly synchronized! “Original I.O.U. Live Tracks”, which coupled the live performances in November 1981 and June 1982, “Tokyo ’85” and “Osaka ’85” from the Japan tour in March 1985, “Roxy Night” performed with Eddie Van Halen and Jeff Berlin in April of the same year, etc. Many releases have been made, including official ones, from the “Road Games” to “I.O.U” to “Metal Fatigue” periods, but the 1984 sound sources have hardly been packaged (the Tokyo performance held just before the San Francisco performance was released as a half-official “I.O.U. Live” in 1997, but…), so this release is very valuable and will be an unbearable delight for fans! (You can also listen to Shallow Sea and Home, which were not included in “I.O.U. Live”.) The bass is Gary Willis, who also showed impressive playing in the studio, and Gary’s unique approach, which is different from Jimmy Johnson, is also a highlight of this performance. The bass solo on Track 10 is definitely a must-listen! This item was performed in August 1984 before the release of the album “Metal Fatigue”, but as expected, the audience’s excitement is not half-hearted throughout the entire series, including Road Games, White Line, Panic Stations, Where is one, and Metal Fatigue, and the unity with the ensemble in Metal Fatigue, which starts with Alan’s insanely cool intro with a good time, is just goosebumps! Anyway, the highlight of this album is Alan’s sharp phrases. The rough and rock-like expressions are completely different from his current flawless and beautiful fluent playing, and you can feel Holdsworth’s awesomeness in a real way! The high-speed guitar solo in the last jam, which is a 32-beat explosion that cannot even be caught for 24 bars, is truly moving. The rhythm section is also completely different from the smooth combination of Chad and Jimmy, and the rough groove in a good sense (Gary’s use of the beat with the metal is exquisite) creates an extremely solid sound for the entire band. This is a must-listen for all rock fans, where you can enjoy the powerful ensemble of Alan Holdsworth’s full-fledged period! This is a super item! Live at Wolfgang’s, San Francisco, CA.
