Description

Alice Cooper of the 1980s, who made a comeback with the up-and-coming heavy metal style, accompanied by the giant Kane Roberts. A historic experiential video of him hitting the iconic British festival is here. The iconic festival is the Reading Festival on August 30, 1987. This is a legendary audience shot that vacuum-packed the cult scene. Speaking of 1987, it was the transitional period between “THE NIGHTMARE RETURNS Tour” of “CONSTRICTOR” and “LIVE IN THE FLESH Tour” of “RAISE YOUR FIST AND YELL”. The meaning and show content change depending on the subtle difference in time. First, let’s explore the position of this work while taking a total overview of the MCA era. 1986 (September 22nd, “CONSTRICTOR” released) October 23rd – November 19th: North America #1 (20 shows) *Official November 23rd – December 5th: Europe #1 (10 shows) December 12th – December 31st: North America #2a (15 shows) 1987 January 2nd – April 1st: North America #2b (59 shows) August 30th: Reading Festival appearance *This work September 28th, “RAISE YOUR FIST AND YELL” released October 15th – December 31st: North America #3a (44 shows) *NEW HAVEN 1987 1988 January 1st – March 6th: North America #3b (38 shows) *TORONTO April 1st – May 6th, 1988: Europe #3 (25 performances) This is the king of Alice Cooper from 1986 to 1988. The appearance at the Reading Festival in this work was about one month before the release of “RAISE YOUR FIST AND YELL”. It would not be strange if it was a warm-up for the “LIVE IN THE FLESH Tour” accompanying the new work, but it has not yet gone there. Rather, it was an additional performance-like show of “THE NIGHTMARE RETURNS Tour” that ended six months ago. This work conveys such a scene, and it is a real video with a cult mood. It is shot from a medium distance slightly to the right, but the field of view is strangely wide. Outdoor festivals are easily blocked by the front customers, so it is not very suitable for audience shooting, but this work passes directly above the head and shoots the stage. As expected, it is the 1980s when video was widespread, so it is not “a close-up like a professional shot”, but you can see the theatrical stage as if you were holding it in your hands. And the sound is especially noteworthy, as there are no ceilings or walls to reflect sound only outdoors. Therefore, the sound emitted by the PA is picked up with zero reverberation, and the contours are clear and vivid, with even the finest details. All the instruments are depicted with plenty of separation, but Alice’s vocals are particularly wonderful. They are captured so clearly that you can enjoy not only every word of the lyrics, but even the nuances contained there. Such visual beauty is depicted in the full show of the MCA metal era. As mentioned above, this work is a special stage like an additional performance of “THE NIGHTMARE RETURNS Tour”. Even though it is the same 1987, there are some songs that are not played in “NEW HAVEN 1987”, so let’s compare and organize them here. Constrictor (3 songs)・The World Needs Guts (★) / Give It Up (★) / Teenage Frankenstein Classics (14 songs)・Billion Dollar Babies: Billion Dollar Babies / No More Mr. Nice Guy / Sick Things (★) / I Love The Dead (★) / Elected (★)・Welcome to My Nightmare: Welcome To My Nightmare (★) / Cold Ethyl (★) / Only Women Bleed・Other: Be My Lover (★) / I’m Eighteen / Go To Hell / Ballad Of Dwight Fry (★) / School’s Out / Under My Wheels *Note: The “★” mark indicates songs that were not performed on the “RAISE YOUR FIST AND YELL Tour”. …And so on. To be honest, it’s the same set as the official video, but the point of this work is the realistic atmosphere. Although it was an outdoor festival, Alice performed as the last act on the final day. The scene is covered in deep darkness, and the stage with red lighting is extremely eerie. And the mood of the scene staring at the stage is also extremely cult. The scale and openness of a horror show and a summer festival are an indescribable match. For example, in the hall venue of the home country of America, the familiar hero is enveloped in enthusiasm, but this work is the UK across the ocean. Alice is an object of awe that came from the other side of rock history. From this work, you can feel the exoticism with your skin. The British festival where the midsummer frenzy is over and the creeping autumn air is beginning to mix. It is a masterpiece of experiential video that seems to blow out of the speakers. The MCA era with the muscular guitarist itself was a unique mood in the whole history of Alice, but this work has a strong cult feeling among them. A one-of-a-kind shock rock that you can’t experience at any other time / venue. A legendary audience shot of the “August 30, 1987 Reading Festival”. Even though it was an outdoor festival, the view was wide and clear as the audience passed directly over their heads, and the sound was extremely clear with zero echoes as there were no ceilings or walls to reflect the sound. The British fans gazed in awe at the horror stage, while the muscular guitarist Kane Roberts went wild in a strange atmosphere. This is a record that exudes a cult atmosphere that you won’t find anywhere else in the history of Alice. Little John’s Farm, Reading, England 30th August 1987 AMAZING SHOT!!! 1. Pre-Show 2. Intro 3.
