Description
The second release following Gary Moore’s “THE DEFINITIVE END” is the first live performance in Japan by ALCATRAZZ, who left a huge impact on the Japanese heavy metal scene! The performance at Nakano Sun Plaza in Tokyo on January 28, 1984, which was the basis for the official live work “LIVE SENTENCE” and the video work “METALLIC LIVE ’84”, was completely recorded with an ultra-class audience source, making the listener feel that even these official works are unnecessary. It is an amazing and exciting 86 minutes! ALCATRAZZ was formed by former RAINBOW member Graham Bonnet with the aim of making a comeback, and in addition to solid veterans such as former NEW ENGLAND members Jimmy Waldo and Gary Shea, and former ALICE COOPER member Jean Juvena, they also acquired the “prodigy” Yngwie Malmsteen, and they were a hot topic from the beginning. On the completed first album “ALCATRAZZ”, Graham and Yngwie showed superhuman playing amid excellent songs and performances, and their outstanding personalities clashed in live performances, exceeding the expectations of fans. In Japan, ALCATRAZZ was emphasized as Graham’s new band, but Yngwie’s guitar was more shocking than Eddie Van Halen’s, and even fans debated whether the guitar was playing in fast forward or not. Their Japan tour, which began with a performance in Osaka on January 24, 1984, was held amid high attention and excitement. The third performance in Japan, the performance at Nakano Sun Plaza on January 28, included in this work, is known for many collector’s items in addition to the official works mentioned above. In particular, “JET TO JET” released on the Shades label was considered by fans to be “the best audience source in January 1984” and even thought that “nothing better could be expected.” However, “Miracle Man” has secretly recorded “even more” than we expected (starting with the opening intro “Night Games”) with a recording time longer than the previous release! “JET TO JET” also captured the live performance with excellent visibility, balance and realism, but the recording of “Miracle Man” has the same quality and stability, but it gets much closer to the stage, and the directness of the performance, sound pressure and clarity are so amazing that it is amazing. Above all, the documentary-like sound image that makes the listener feel like “I’m in the live venue now” is irresistible! As you can understand from “Too Young To Die, Too Drunk To Live”, Graham’s beautifully recorded vocals and Yngwie’s guitar are particularly excellent, with a vivid texture and clarity like a line sound source mixed. When you listen to songs like “Hiroshima Mon Amour”, you will feel a hot emotion that seems to tear at your heart! In “Night Games,” “Big Foot,” and “Island In The Sun,” the guitar and vocals create a dynamic world, and Jimmy’s keyboards fill the space perfectly, making the ensemble of ALCATRAZZ an ideal way to enjoy the music. Since these are live performances that have official recordings, I have tended to focus on the differences from the official version, but in the face of this overwhelming recording, detailed comparisons like “spot the difference” are ridiculous. Just immerse yourself in the live performance unfolding before your eyes! Yngwie’s solo, which begins with the magnificent “Kree Nakoorie,” is a highlight. He picks (and does so accurately) without a moment’s pause, and there are no wasted sounds. You will be surprised at how much the official recordings have belittled the sound in songs like “Coming Bach” in the middle of the album. The emotional feeling of “Suffer Me” led by the intro of “Black Star”, the desolate desert that comes to mind with “Desert Song” and “Jet To Jet” are the peak of the live performance. The energy of the performance that quickly erupts is the epitome of the title “SUPER JET” of this work (of course, the opening part that was missing in the previous release is also well recorded)! The RAINBOW numbers “All Night Long” and “Lost In Hollywood” that are repeated at the climax of the live are also reproduced with unprecedented power and realism in this work. The exchange between Graham and the audience in the second half of “All Night Long” is so real that the listeners can’t help but speak out. The excitement of “Lost In Hollywood” is so dynamic that the venue is shaking! The encore “Somethin’ Else” that starts with “Kojo no Tsuki” sublimates the excitement of the live while keeping it fun, and the closing is in a bright mood. After the performance, the recording continues for nearly two minutes until the end of the show is announced, but the audience’s cheers and applause do not stop. The ending speaks volumes about how the live performance that day captivated the fans. This work will be positioned as the best item of the year for fans of Yngwie Malmsteen and Graham Bonnet. With an exceptional listening experience that exceeds even the official sound source, and outstanding sound quality that surpasses any previously released title, ALCATRAZZ’s special Tokyo premiere is completely reproduced here!
