Herbie Hancock/RI,USA 08.02.2026

This 1-hour recording captures Herbie Hancock’s performance at the annual Newport Jazz Festival held on August 2, 2026, in Long Island, USA. The recording features a high-quality audience master and digital remastering. The quintet, which naturally headlined the day, features the same regular members as the previous year: James Genus on bass, Terence Blanchard on trumpet, and Lionel Luke on guitar. Thus, the show closely follows a setlist similar to those of recent years. Above all, Herbie’s playing, still full of energy even at over 85 years old, is astonishing, and this is a masterpiece that makes you hope he will continue to play in good health for many years to come. In particular, this day’s setlist was excellent, starting with “Watermelon Man,” interspersed with Miles Davis numbers, and ending with “Chameleon”—a truly great selection of Electric Hancock’s best songs.
