Disc 1 This is a superb, official-quality pro-shot recording of Marcus Miller’s November 3, 2007 concert in Leverkusen, a masterpiece of perfect quality with digital remastering from the broadcast master. While there were versions of this concert that were circulating that did not include “Blaster” and “Panther ~ When I Fall In Love,” this release includes over an hour of footage that captures the entire stage performance. Furthermore, the master itself uses a much higher bitrate master than the aforementioned short version, and the quality of both the video and audio is literally astonishing, making it a must-have item for fans. It is a professional specification with menu chapters and a running time of 69 minutes. “28. The first half features a performance from the San Sebastian Jazz Festival held in Spain on July 26, 2007. This outdoor live performance, featuring Marcus alongside his close friends Michael Patches Stewart and Poogie Bell amidst the charming streets of San Sebastian, feels incredibly fresh to those accustomed to seeing him perform in the venues of his familiar Japanese tours. From the new song “Blast” to Marcus’s signature “Higher Ground,” “Jean Pierre” and “Panther,” the superb bass clarinet melody in “When I Fall In Love,” and the ending of “Come Together” and “Tutu,” it’s a blissful hour that will keep you captivated from beginning to end. The second half, on the other hand, goes back about 10 years to a performance at Jazzbaltica in Germany on June 12, 1998. This approximately one-hour performance, featuring Hiram Bullock on guitar, is also captured in superb, official-quality video. This professional edition includes menu chapters and has a running time of 115 minutes. This release features 78 minutes of official-quality professional video footage from two events and live performances held in the summer of 2005/6. A key point is that both performances feature many cover numbers that the band has been playing frequently in recent live performances. The first half, from the annual Montreux Jazz Festival on July 12, 2006, starts with an unexpected Stevie Wonder number, followed by a bold yet delicate rendition of Miles Davis’s “Jean Pierre,” utilizing slap bass techniques. Towards the end, they play a funky version of Edward Winter’s “Frankenstein.” Although only 28 minutes long, it’s packed with highlights. The second half, from their performance in France on July 20, 2005, is simply non-stop playing! Their virtuoso slap/tapping techniques are on full display, and the band exudes a vibrant groove with a strong core. The way they hit the deepest, most delicious parts of the beat with heavy bass is truly goosebump-inducing. Then, he plays a flowing melody on fretless bass/bass clarinet, adding a romantic touch. This is a must-have item where you can fully enjoy Marcus’s jazzy and funky stage presence! Running time is 78 minutes. Befitting its special status, this 1992 concert, featuring O. Hakim and D. Sanborn, is short in length, but the video captures the brilliance of the performance even more than the audio. In particular, Marcus’s bass clarinet playing, which is rarely performed these days, and Sanborn’s smooth playing, featured throughout, are showcased in abundance in “SNAKES” and “STRAIGHT TO THE HEART.” The solo parts of each member shine in “SNAKES,” which are even more impressive in video form! This is a super session that will never be recreated, and a historical record of a super band. It is a professional edition with a menu chapter and a running time of 30 minutes.
