Experience the urban sound that exquisitely blends smooth jazz, fusion, and R&B, the meticulous ensemble work, and the solo work of these first-class players. This four-disc collection allows you to enjoy the charm of FOURPLAY’s live performances from 2000, 2005, and 2017 for approximately 351 minutes. Details of each disc are below. Disc 1: Formed in 1990 by four renowned players—Bob James on piano and keyboards, Lee Ritenour on guitar, Nathan East on bass, and Harvey Mason on drums—FOURPLAY quickly became a popular band in the jazz fusion world. By the mid-1990s, they had released three albums, and in 1997, Larry Carlton, who, along with Ritenour, became the second guitarist, took over the position. They continued to be active, and in 2006 they released their 10th album, “X” (with Michael McDonald as a guest), and now a valuable archive from that same year has appeared! This is a live DVD of the newly formed Fourplay, featuring popular saxophonist Nokirk Whalum. It was recorded at the San Javier International Jazz Festival held in Murcia, Spain in July 2017. Please note that there are some slight sound dropouts. Live at San Javier Jazz Festival, Spain 07/22/2017 1. Avalabop 2. Max-O-Man 3. Chant 4. Introduce By Kirk Whalum 5. Precious Metal 6. While there is the official “Live in Cape Town,” which features a concert held at the end of 2005, this item features a concert from January 16th of the same year, totaling over 100 minutes. As this is a live recording from the same year, the general flow of the setlist is almost the same as the aforementioned official release, but this release includes Sting’s cover of “Fields Of Gold,” which is not included on the official release, Carlton’s live staple “Smiles And Smiles To Go,” and even Bob James’s famous song “Westchester Lady,” making it a video item that fans absolutely cannot miss. It is a professional edition with a menu chapter and has a running time of 101 minutes. The simple yet sophisticated music created by four super players—Bob James, Harvey Mason, Lee Ritenour, and Nathan East—is truly magical! And it’s sensual, mature music… however, this album is a rare find as the guitarist is Larry Carlton. Even so, I can’t imagine what married life between Lee Ritenour and Anri was like… Not Set List Running Time 90min Disc 4 This high-definition digital recording captures the live performance held on October 30, 2000, at a TV studio in Baden-Baden, Germany, as broadcast locally. The stage, which began with an audience in the studio, differs from a hall performance in that each member and the lucky audience members who were invited there are in a very close, friendly live house-like setting, and the performance itself has a very relaxed atmosphere. The live show starts with the famous song “CHANT,” which is an essential part of their live performances. For the second song, “MOONJOGGER,” famous for Lee Ritenour’s light guitar playing, is played by Larry Carlton on a sunburst semi-acoustic guitar in this live performance. This DVD features many of their classic smooth jazz tracks captured in superb video quality, making it a must-see for fans. Furthermore, it boasts high-definition, high-bitrate audio, and of course, stereo sound, ensuring a fantastic viewing experience on your home TV or PC monitor. Please note that there are two brief moments where the sound fluctuates by about 0.5 seconds. LIVE AT BADEN BADEN, GERMANY 10/30/2000 1. CHANT 2. MOONJOGGER 3. ROBO BOP 4. FORTRESS 5.
