Miles Davis Bob Berg/Italy 11.13.1986 Remastered

This 2-hour and 3-minute recording captures a live performance in Bologna, Italy, on November 13th, towards the end of Miles Davis’s 1986 European tour. The recording utilizes a high-quality audience master recently released by a taper, and has been newly remastered in 2026. The already excellent sound source has been further enhanced with the latest equipment for pitch correction and sound pressure adjustment, reducing hiss noise and smoothly merging cut sections, resulting in consistent quality throughout. Furthermore, this recording is extremely rare, featuring the playing of Garth Weber, who briefly replaced Robben Ford in the band during the mid-80s. Recordings from this period with an eight-piece lineup are limited, making this release particularly valuable. The performance itself is also noteworthy; Vince Wilburn’s light, hip-hop-esque rhythm has a modern feel, and the ensemble’s brilliance suggests that Miles Davis, who was often undervalued at the time, will likely be re-evaluated in the future. Miles himself is in excellent condition, with power in every note of his trumpet, and the straightforward sustain is superb. The album primarily features tracks from the Grammy Award-winning album “TUTU,” and while the rhythm is light, the two-man duo of Miles and Bob Berg, who play with great energy, are enjoyable throughout. Bob, in particular, is full of life on tenor and soprano saxophone, and the interplay between him and Miles, who interjects sharp phrases, is superb. Furthermore, “CARNIVAL TIME,” which shows developments in the latter half of this period, features a funky jam session, making this a superb album where you can enjoy both funkiness and a hard-edged sound.
