With the long-awaited revamp of the radio broadcast from the first day of the 1970 Paris tour finally being released, it’s only natural that the second day’s broadcast should also be re-released. This is because, regarding the second day’s Paris broadcast, which was a representative mono soundboard radio broadcast of the 1970 European tour, the definitive version, “PARIS 1970 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” created three years ago through the synergistic effect of “GRAF ZEPPELIN’s” meticulous remastering and excellent source material, has established an unshakeable position. However, it has long since sold out. Therefore, this re-release, combining the first and second days’ broadcasts, is perfectly timed. Of course, there would have been no problem simply re-releasing the 2023 version as is, as it was meticulously crafted not only in terms of sound quality but also in terms of even the slightest pitch inaccuracies. However, it was also the perfect time to re-release it with further adjustments, so “GRAF ZEPPELIN” went back to the original source and remastered it again. The previous release, “PARIS 1970 2ND NIGHT SOUNDBOARD,” was highly praised for its natural finish on “GRAF ZEPPELIN,” but this time, while maintaining that naturalness, the approach has been changed to a remaster that emphasizes the mid-range frequencies. As a result, the hiss noise is less noticeable than before, and Mick’s vocals and Keith’s guitar are brought into sharper focus. In particular, the rough texture of Keith’s guitar is more prominent than on the 2023 release, and while the previous release was indeed a superb finish, many fans will likely find this remaster even more appealing. The difference is evident from the opening track “Jumping Jack Flash” and the intro to the 1970 classic “Roll Over Beethoven.” The original recording had a somewhat prominent boomy bass sound, which was largely resolved in the previous remaster, but this time it’s even easier to listen to, and you can once again enjoy the live sound that is so characteristic of the Stones in 1970, captured in soundboard quality. This release, like the 2023 version, features the last two tracks switched to speaker recordings from different airchecks, and includes two fragmented rebroadcast tracks as bonus material. However, the main part is so good that even fans who already own the previous version will want to buy this one. It’s incredibly lucky that the 1970 European tour performances were preserved as such a soundboard recording, even though the original source was an aircheck. The Stones deliver a high-energy performance that’s different from the previous day. While Mick’s high energy was impressive the day before, the guitar solo exchange between Keith and Taylor in “Sympathy For The Devil” is absolutely thrilling. This soundboard recording, which once again showcases the charm of the 1970 tour, is not only being re-released but has also been reborn to be even easier to listen to!
