Description

This release features a high-quality stereo audience recording of Deborah Harry’s concert in Victoria from October 18, 1989—part of the “Def, Dumb & Blonde” tour that followed the release of her third solo album of the same name. The album marked her return to the name “Deborah” (from “Debbie”) and was created with the help of numerous collaborators, including Mike Chapman, who had produced four of Blondie’s albums. This rare recording captures the show held at the Strathcona Hotel—a traditional Victorian-era hotel in downtown Victoria, British Columbia—with exceptional clarity for a recording of that era; the vocals are prominent and distinct, and the instrumental balance is superb. Additionally, the audio has been remastered, with careful correction of pitch fluctuations present in the original master tape. With the exception of the first part of “Comic Books,” the entire performance is included here. The setlist features tracks from the album *Def, Dumb & Blonde*—such as the lead single “I Want That Man” (which reached the Top 20 in the UK and #2 in Australia) and “Kiss It Better” (a Top 15 hit on the US Modern Rock chart)—alongside a generous selection of Blondie-era classics like the opener “The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game,” “Heart Of Glass,” and “Call Me.” The show concludes with a second encore featuring “French Kissin’ In The U.S.A.” (a single from her second solo album that hit #8 in the UK) and the Velvet Underground classic “Waiting For My Man.” The Forge, Strathcona Hotel, Victoria, BC – October 18, 1989. 01.
