Description
Disc 1 captures the secret gig held at The Borderline in London on August 21, 1994, originally intended for the filming of the “Cigarettes & Alcohol” music video. Although—ironically—the song itself wasn’t actually performed, the recording captures an incredibly intimate live atmosphere typical of a small city club, complete with a scene involving a rather shady-looking restroom. Perhaps with an eye toward the shots needed for the video, the set opens with an instrumental Jam track. There is a moment of confusion where it looks like they might play “Cigarettes & Alcohol,” and the intro to “Supersonic” is played, yet the song that actually kicks in is “Listen Up.” Even after “Listen Up” begins, phrases from “Supersonic” are woven into the mix—a unique and unusual occurrence. Another rarity is the inclusion of not only “All the Young Dudes” but also Bowie’s “Changes” during the latter half of “Whatever.” Disc 2 features a complete recording of the show at Club Gino in Stockholm, Sweden, on September 2, 1994. This was part of the “Definitely Maybe” tour. It is a high-quality DAT recording—featuring Liam’s languid “Hello Sweden” greeting—that has never been released until now. A wonderful two-disc set for devoted Oasis fans. Disc 1 presents the complete secret gig from The Borderline in London (August 21, 1994)—filmed for the “Cigarettes & Alcohol” video—in unprecedented high audio quality. Disc 2 offers a complete recording of a previously unreleased show from ten days later, on September 2, 1994, at Club Gino—another small venue—in Stockholm, Sweden. Noel apparently used to smoke Benson & Hedges cigarettes constantly but has since quit; the title “Temperance Movement” alludes to the movement advocating for abstinence from alcohol and tobacco. Booze, tears, and rock ‘n’ roll. Drinking, drinking, getting wasted, and drinking some more. Tonight, too, I’ll down some booze and drift off to sleep.
