This release captures a 45-minute studio live performance—originally broadcast by local station KSAN—recorded at The Record Plant in California on May 12, 1974, a time when the band was in its infancy and had not yet released its debut album. The lineup featured the duo of Neal Schon and Gregg Rolie (fresh from Santana) joined by Aynsley Dunbar, solidifying the group’s initial formation. Following this period, they balanced album production with a US tour, eventually releasing their self-titled debut album (*Journey*) in April 1975. This title presents that rare studio performance, sourced directly from a recently discovered reel-to-reel master tape. The music showcases a progressive/jazz-rock style characterized by the intricate interplay between Gregg Rolie’s organ and Neal Schon’s guitar; notably, the setlist includes all seven tracks from their debut album. It also features “It’s All Too Much” (from their second album, *Look into the Future*). Most of these songs were rarely—if ever—performed after Steve Perry joined the band.
