Queen / II Alternate Collection Black Edition

This 2026 release marks the second installment in Queen’s latest “Alternate Collection” series: *Queen II: Black Edition*, issued as a direct-import set containing the original CD plus a DVD. Disc 1 features the entire album in a “Multiplex Stereo Remix”—a completely new edit derived from the original multitrack tapes. Disc 2 presents a “Reconstruction Remix,” another unique edit rebuilt from the multitracks, alongside a compilation of non-album single edits, rare versions, and outtakes. The accompanying DVD serves as a video collection, gathering newly edited videos and rare archival footage, including various versions broadcast on BBC TV. As the second entry in this new collector’s series, *Queen II: Black Edition* focuses on the band’s 1974 sophomore album. Disc 1’s “Multiplex Stereo Remix” offers a realistic soundscape distinct from the polished, overdub-heavy final release; it highlights raw, isolated vocals and guitar phrases that differ from the standard stereo mix. Disc 2’s “Reconstruction Remix” offers yet another perspective, featuring different stereo separation for vocals and instruments and bringing to the forefront elements—such as backing vocals, guitar lines, or piano parts—that were often buried in the original mix. The latter half of both discs is dedicated to “Singles & Rarities,” including standalone versions of tracks that were originally cross-faded on the album, as well as additional remix material. The accompanying DVD compiles album-related footage into distinct sections: the “Complete Video Album” visualizes every track on the album using a variety of footage in line with the concept; “Top of the Pops Versions” features five different takes—including unaired and re-edited versions—of the studio performance of “Seven Seas of Rhye” from their 1974 BBC TV appearance, which was rediscovered in later years; and “Promotional Videos & Rarities” presents a newly edited collection (created in 2026) spanning one hour and forty-one minutes, featuring a 2026 re-edit, various video clips of “Seven Seas of Rhye” from later compilations, and private footage capturing their first North American tour as the opening act for Mott the Hoople.
