Charles Mingus / Finland 1976 Re-FM Broadcast Edition

We have just received a title that will astonish enthusiasts: a recording of a 1976 live performance at Finlandia Hall in Finland. Although it was suddenly rebroadcast on Finland’s RAI RADIO3 in the summer of 2024, the sound quality and balance are so superb that they put official releases to shame. This performance features the same lineup as their tour of Japan about a month prior, delivering a truly magnificent show. The broadcast source contained a section where the pitch slowed down, but the audio specialist “Goddy” has corrected this, allowing you to enjoy the full 2-hour and 28-minute performance. A highlight is the playing of the robust tenor saxophonist Ricky Ford. He made his debut the following year (1977) and later moved to the Muse label, releasing numerous masterpieces; his tenor playing is exquisite and not to be missed.
