This release captures the opening night of the April 1964 European tour—a performance in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on April 10—featuring a remaster by the same overseas enthusiast group that unearthed the source material for the previous release, *Complete Stuttgart 1964*. While this performance has appeared on various formats in the past—starting with a 3-LP set on the DIW label and followed by several CD editions (Jazz Collectors, Ulysse Musique)—previous releases were marred by hiss noise present in the original source and suffered from a restricted frequency range. Fans have long awaited a definitive edition that resolves these issues. This new release from Mega Disc has been remastered to achieve optimal balance between instruments, corrected track IDs, and an improved frequency range, resulting in a recording that anyone would agree is the definitive version. (Note: There are differing theories regarding the setlist order.) As this was the tour’s opening night, Eric Dolphy’s intensity is palpably different. Tragically, he would pass away in Berlin just two months later, in June, following a heart attack caused by diabetes.
