George Harrison / Rising Sun: Final Recordings 1988–2001

This release features previously uncirculated recordings from George’s final sessions. While many titles have previously included the broadcast version of the May 14, 1997 TV show *Yin & Yang*, this release presents the unedited version—covering everything from the initial setup and rehearsals to the actual performance—all appearing here for the first time. The latter half of Disc 1 and the entirety of Disc 2 contain recordings from the sessions for his posthumous album, *Brainwashed*. During his lifetime, George composed music but showed little interest in the recording process itself, often entrusting the finishing touches—after recording his own parts—to outside engineers and musicians like Jeff Lynne. As *Brainwashed* was completed posthumously through re-editing by Jeff Lynne and George’s son Dhani, it is only natural that this tendency is particularly pronounced in that album. The versions included here, however, are free from such outside intervention; they feature George performing all instruments and vocals himself. All of these are previously unreleased recordings. A brief aside: the song credited as “Run So Far” on the album is titled “(CAN ONLY) RUN SO FAR” here; similarly, “P2 Vatican Blues (Last Saturday Night)” appears simply as “P.2. VATICAN BLUES.” These discrepancies stem from the handwritten titles George had marked on the original source tapes; it appears Dhani altered them when finalizing the album after George’s death. This release offers the unedited version of *Yin & Yang*—George’s final TV appearance and last public performance—alongside recordings from the *Brainwashed* sessions featuring only George’s own instrumentation and vocals, prior to any outside involvement.
