Description
To commemorate their 50th anniversary in 2026, Rush made a long-awaited live comeback after an 11-year hiatus. This release pairs audio and video from the “Fifty Something Tour”—specifically the historic opening night in Los Angeles on June 7th. The audio features a high-quality audience recording captured with state-of-the-art digital equipment, delivering the full 2-hour-and-40-minute performance with soundboard-level clarity. The accompanying DVD offers an unobstructed, crystal-clear view of the band, utilizing stable angles and frequent zooming; interestingly, the camera work often focuses intently on the new drummer, Anika Nilles, from a side-profile angle, almost as if spotlighting her specifically. Much attention had been focused on who would replace Neil Peart; the role was filled by German drummer Anika Nilles—a composer and producer known for her work with Jeff Beck—creating a four-piece lineup that included keyboards. This inaugural tour kicked off at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles, the very venue where they had played their final show with Neil. The concert opened with a surprise—a rendition of “Xanadu” clocking in at over ten minutes, a first in the band’s history—followed by a two-part setlist packed with their greatest hits. Tribute sections honoring Neil Peart were woven throughout the show; for instance, tribute videos played before “Bravado” and “Time Stand Still,” and Aimee Mann—who appeared on the original studio recording—joined the band on stage to recreate that classic track. The encore performance of “Working Man” featured visuals of original drummer John Rutsey, further underscoring the retrospective nature of the show, which celebrated the band’s 50-year legacy. A significant feature of this four-night run at the Forum was that the setlist changed drastically each night; notably, “Natural Science” and “Caravan” were performed exclusively on this opening night. In short, this is a must-have item for longtime fans—a complete recreation of that magnificent first day of the comeback, featuring top-quality audio and visuals.
