A live recording has arrived featuring the reunion—in 2024—of the original lineup from *The Next Step*, the masterpiece that cemented the stature of Kurt Rosenwinkel, a jazz guitarist acclaimed by Eric Clapton himself. Released in 2000, *The Next Step*—featuring the powerhouse quartet of Rosenwinkel, Mark Turner (sax), Ben Street (bass), and Jeff Ballard (drums)—was hailed by jazz fans worldwide as a pivotal work that heralded a new era of jazz, propelling Rosenwinkel to fame. It is also worth noting his 2013 appearance at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival, where, at Rosenwinkel’s own request, he performed alongside Allan Holdsworth. Furthermore, a live recording from a 1996 performance at the New York jazz club Smalls has been unearthed and is scheduled for official release this July. This new release is a magnificent three-disc set capturing the entirety of both the first and second sets from their performance on May 23 at Dazzle, a jazz club in Denver.
