Description
If one were to ask what stands as the best among the many video releases of Guns N’ Roses—official or otherwise—the “1988 Ritz concert” would undoubtedly be a top contender; now, in 2026, a remarkable upgraded version of that very show has been unearthed. The February 2, 1988, performance at the Ritz club in New York is legendary, having been broadcast on MTV and via Westwood One radio, leading to a multitude of video and audio releases over the years. However, the footage in this newly discovered title boasts picture quality comparable to modern digital video. Notably, while previous versions suffered a sudden drop in quality during “Mama Kin” (where footage from a different source had to be spliced in), this new master maintains consistent quality throughout, delivering a full-length experience in modern HD resolution. Furthermore, this new master differs fundamentally from the traditional TV broadcast version; although some songs share the same editing, others feature different camera switching and edits, incorporating plenty of shots never seen before. The runtime has also been extended: the cameras kept rolling during the pre-encore wait, and after the final song, the footage doesn’t immediately cut to the end credits but instead captures the authentic atmosphere of the venue—including a scene where Slash stage-dives and is carried by the crowd. These additions transform the standard 64-minute release into an extended version running approximately 72 minutes. Without a doubt, this captures Guns N’ Roses at their live performance peak; it is an essential, “must-own” item for any collection—a definitive release for fans who have never seen it, as well as for those who already own previous versions.
