Mulgrew Miller joins on piano; the chemistry between his swinging piano work and Woody Shaw’s trumpet is brilliant and truly spine-tingling. Disc 2 features the classics “Solar” and “Portrait of a Mountain” performed as a piano trio, without the horn. Also featured is the seasoned trombonist Steve Turre—a musician’s musician known for his work with Roland Kirk—who delivers plenty of funky solos.
