Description

This three-disc set captures a breathtaking live performance—spanning over three hours—held in 1980 at the legendary San Francisco jazz venue “Keystone Korner,” sourced from broadcast recordings. Mulgrew Miller joins on piano; the chemistry between his swinging piano work and Woody Shaw’s trumpet is brilliant and truly spine-tingling. Disc 2 features the classics “Solar” and “Portrait of a Mountain” performed as a piano trio, without the horn. Also featured is the seasoned trombonist Steve Turre—a musician’s musician known for his work with Roland Kirk—who delivers plenty of funky solos. Woody Shaw’s fiery, impassioned trumpet playing sounds as fresh today as it did then, capable of sending shivers down the listener’s spine. Superb stereo soundboard recording. Live At Keystone Korner, San Francisco, September 25, 1980. Disc 1: 1. Viewpoint 2. Joshua C. 3. O.P.E.C. 4. Old Folks. Disc 2: 1. Sun Bath 2. Solar 3. Portrait Of A Mountain 4. Ginseng People 5.
