Pat Metheny, Mick Goodrick / MA, USA / 12.04.2002 Remastered

Following the US tour in 2002 that followed the release of “SPEAKING OF NOW,” a private, special live performance held at Berklee College of Music in Boston on December 4th was recorded. This 1 hour and 10 minute recording was digitally remastered using a high-quality audience master. The original recording beautifully reproduces the wide dynamic range and delicate tones, and in addition to the mastering process, the gaps between songs and Metheny’s MCs have been smoothly edited out, resulting in a quality that can be fully enjoyed as a live album. At this time, Metheny had finished his group activities for the year and was collaborating with various musicians as an individual. Here, he performs a duo with Mick Goodrick, a guitarist who also teaches at Berklee College of Music, showcasing various guitar techniques to students. Therefore, the somewhat academic performance, mainly improvisation and incorporating standards such as “Stella by Starlight,” may not be for everyone, but considering that Bill Frisell, John Scofield, and Mike Stern all studied under him and graduated from the school, the approach of these two is quite interesting.
