Description

Our big brother and boss, Noel Gallagher, called it “the best London show I’ve ever played,” and now, after thorough polishing, the ultra-high-quality audience recording of the second night at Wembley Arena is finally being released on CD for the first time! In addition, the unfortunate first night’s performance, which boasts official-grade sound image and sound quality but has never been properly edited in previous releases, has been given its longest and best-ever recording by thoroughly researching multiple existing sources and identifying the problems with previous releases! This is also the first time this live performance has been released on CD. One of Oasis’s finest performances of the tour is finally here in permanent preservation quality! At first glance, it might seem that stereo soundboard recordings capturing the entirety of Oasis’s career have already been covered by pressed CDs, but that’s not the case at all. There are still many overlooked soundboard recordings out there, and some of them are truly amazing. A prime example of this is the two-day run at Wembley Arena in their home country of the UK during the 2008 “DIG OUT YOUR SOUL” tour. For the first night’s performance, there is a superb pro-shot video that was broadcast with delay by the now-defunct MTV at the time, and naturally, the stereo soundboard is derived from that video. The sound quality and mix were already superb at the time of broadcast, boasting top-class quality in Oasis live history, and it is at a level that would be perfectly acceptable as an audio-only live album. Nevertheless, various items from 2008 such as “HAVE BEEN LOOKED?”, “UNITED KINGDOM”, “WEMBLEY 2008”, and “LONDON 2 NIGHTS” were all released in real time, and moreover, the condition of the original video sources that these were referenced from was riddled with major problems, as follows. 1. Missing at the beginning of Fuckin’ In The Bushes 2. Missing out of Slide Away and before Morning Glory 3. Missing between songs after Ain’t Got Nothin’ and at the beginning of The Importance Of Being Idle 4. Missing at the beginning of To Be Where There’s Life 5. Missing out of To Be Where There’s Life and before Waiting For The Rapture starts. ⑤ in particular is a recording error caused by a fan who uploaded the video that served as the source for the aforementioned previously released titles to the internet accidentally messing with the menu during recording, and then releasing the file online in that state. To top it all off, “Don’t Look Back In Anger” was cut from the UK broadcast, and while the idea of patching the song from other countries’ broadcast versions into the previously released titles was a good one, the editing of the transitions was extremely sloppy. Furthermore, even “HAVE BEEN LOOKED?”, which was previously considered a best-of compilation, had quite flashy spatial effects added to the original sound to create a sense of spaciousness. Considering the brilliance of the original mix, the first day of the 2008 Wembley Arena concert was truly unfortunate. So this time, we’ve meticulously patched the delayed live broadcast source with the original stereo mix from the later broadcast highlights (in fact, many of the highlights available are 5.1ch mixes that have been processed to 2ch, so a stereo version that can be heard cleanly in 2ch from the start is surprisingly rare), resolving all the problems with the aforementioned previously released titles! What’s particularly amazing is that they’ve not just simply spliced the tracks together, but achieved such a clean connection that you can’t even tell where the cuts are! (The transition from “Don’t Look Back In Anger” to “Falling Down” is a prime example that clearly demonstrates its quality.) While the absence of the finale “I Am The Walrus,” which was cut from the entire broadcast and remains undiscovered to this day, is unavoidable, the other cuts and other edits are so thorough that you would never notice them at first listen, resulting in a flawless first-press CD release of the first day of Wembley Arena 2008! Naturally, it also boasts the longest recording to date. There are no gimmicks like effects, and above all, the mix itself is perfect (comparing it to this release makes it clear that the previously released “HAVE BEEN LOOKED?” lost clarity due to the use of the aforementioned spatial effects), so there was no need for AI on the first day. However, the Wembley Arena live recordings don’t end there! In fact, the highlight of this release is the second day at Wembley! This is because the second day’s performance was a masterpiece among masterpieces from the 2008 “DIG OUT YOUR SOUL” tour, which Noel himself described in his tour blog and magazine interviews at the time as “the best London show I’ve ever played!” Fortunately, there is an extremely high-quality stereo audience recording of this second day, which was included in some of the CD-R releases mentioned earlier, but none of them are currently available. In order to take this excellent recording to the next level, the master audio was broken down into a total of 12 tracks: 5 drum stems (kick, snare, tom, hi-hat, cymbal), vocals, bass, piano, electric guitar, acoustic guitar, audience noise, and other tracks. Each track was then remastered and remixed using the latest AI technology! The result is fantastic, and it is clear just by listening to “Lyla” at the beginning of the live performance that Liam’s vocals have come forward and become much easier to listen to, and even the clarity of his vocals has improved. As it was early in the tour, Liam was in top form from the day before, but on this day he delivered an even more soaring vocal performance. “Songbird” might even be the best take of the tour. Noel, too, was so overwhelmed by the excitement that he let the audience sing along to “The Importance of Being Idle,” a moment that perfectly recreated the essence of the day. And yet, this miraculous recording, which doesn’t pick up a single jarring sound of excitement, has been brought to perfection through remastering and remixing! This is the superb audience recording of the second night of the Wembley Arena show in 2008, a legendary performance that even Noel himself said, “The audience sang at the top of their lungs from opening to closing. You could almost smell the energy. Nights like that are what I live for.” This is the ultimate coupling of this superb audience recording and the best version of the first night, an official-quality stereo soundboard recording that has been unfairly treated!
