Description
This is a two-disc live recording featuring 14 tracks from a performance at the Hamburg State Opera on October 21, 1983, during their European tour following the release of their album “Lyrical Suite for Sextet” on ECM. The latter half of the album features a string quartet, recreating “Lyrical Suite for Sextet.” While many live recordings of the duo have been released by MegaDisc since their legendary 1973 album “Crystal Silence” on ECM Records, this is the first time live recordings from their 1983 world tour have been released. The first part of the album on Disc 1 includes “Falling Grace,” “La Feistà,” and even “All Blues,” showcasing the duo’s perfectly synchronized improvisations and aesthetically pleasing performances. The arrangements of each song are excellent and well worth listening to. Now, in the second part of Disc 2, a string quartet joins in, and the album “Lyric Suite for Sextet” is recreated perfectly in the album’s track order for approximately one hour in this live performance. The thrilling live experience, which cannot be felt in the studio recording, is vividly revived. Furthermore, the gorgeous and luxurious ensemble is something you absolutely cannot miss. Even “The Castle of Isfahan” is performed as an encore, and after listening to this legendary live performance, you are guaranteed to be deeply moved.
