Prince / Purple Rain Super Expended Edition

The film and its soundtrack, “Purple Rain,” is Prince’s best-selling album to date. Numerous recording sessions were held for this album, and outtakes and alternate versions have been leaked over the years. In particular, the 2017 release “Purple Rain Deluxe” featured many newly discovered unreleased tracks, making it a definitive edition. This time, we have compiled outtakes, alternate versions, remixes, and unreleased tracks related to “Purple Rain” with a specific purpose in mind. It will be released in a 6-CD set. It is called “Purple Rain Super Expanded Edition.” 12-inch and 7-inch versions are not included in this title unless absolutely necessary, as the Anthology and Fun With Vinyl series cover those aspects more thoroughly. This time, we have focused solely on the songs from “Purple Rain,” full-length versions, and outtakes. The “Demo” labels indicate that while the Prince versions of the songs he provided are the basis, there are also demos from the artists he provided the songs to, and, in the case of Jesse Johnson, demos by the artist himself. The first 3 CDs are the Purple Rain Expanded Album. From the opening track “Hello How R U” to the full-length version of “Purple Rain,” Prince sometimes included songs he had written to other artists back on his own albums, even those he considered great, from before ‘1999’ up to around ‘Around the World in a Day’. As a result, “A Million Miles (I Love You)” and “Nothing Compares 2 U” are also included, making “Purple Rain” even more voluminous than the 3-disc epic “Emancipation.” The three discs from Disc 4 onwards are outtakes that couldn’t be included in the subsequent Purple Rain Expanded Album. Family artists like The Time, Apollonia 6, and Dez Dickerson are included here. Rehearsal jams, instrumentals, and fan-made long versions are also included.
