Description
With only two solo performances scheduled in Japan in 2026, one in Tokyo and one in Osaka, this release features a full 1 hour and 40 minute recording of the March 25th show at Zepp Namba in Osaka, captured from in-ear monitors. First of all, this recording is from the master audio source of the IEMs used by the band members at the venue that day, and unlike typical IEMs, there are almost no counts or clicks except for a slight count at the beginning of each song. Furthermore, the balance of instruments such as bass and keyboards is well-balanced with Todd’s vocals as the main focus, recreating the live performance with a perfect stereo soundboard recording directly connected to the mixing console. The setlist was exactly the same as the one in Tokyo two days earlier, and while one might expect it to be similar to the setlist from the previous year’s Japan tour, it suddenly starts with “Everybody” from 2015, and continues with many core selections including songs from “A Cappella” and numbers from solo albums from the 80s and 90s onwards. Of course, the setlist included a Motown medley from the 70s album “The Wizard Is a True Star,” songs from “Faithful,” and of course, “I Saw the Light” and “Can We Still Be Friends,” and ended with “Hello It’s Me,” truly summarizing his career of over half a century. In addition, the album features a cover of Cole’s “The Walls Came Down” for the first time in a long time, and the participation of his Utopia bandmate Kasim Sulton, among other highlights. Furthermore, as a bonus, four tracks totaling approximately 24 minutes have been added, including the soundcheck from that day, also recorded using IEM. This is a definitive, limited-edition memorial item from his final performance in Japan. Live at Zepp Namba, Osaka, Japan 25th March 2026: from Original IEM Recording Masters Disc 1: 1. Intro. 2.
