Description

A complete recording of Keith Richards’ 1969 Stockholm concert, featuring Paul Motian (the regular drummer for the Bill Evans Trio with Scott LaFaro), has arrived in its entirety, spanning over an hour and a half, in master-quality, high-fidelity, and never before seen! While several recordings of the Keith Richards Trio from this period have been released before, they were all broadcast recordings and therefore edited to be shorter, with only compilations of a few concerts being released. As a result, there were virtually no items that allowed fans to know the full scope of a concert from this crucial period in Keith’s career. However, here is a powerful and extremely rare recording that reveals the entirety of a Keith Richards Trio concert from this period, much to the delight of fans! An astonishing tape has been unearthed containing a complete recording of Keith Richards’ December 9, 1969 concert in Stockholm, Sweden, spanning over an hour and a half. This two-disc set features a miraculously high-quality sound, meticulously remastered from the nearly 60-year-old master tape, with minor flaws removed. The concert is divided into seven parts, beginning with a lengthy medley in Part 1 that includes The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun” and a Motian solo. In Part 4, we hear the full version of “Memories of Tomorrow,” a famous song with a beautiful melody that later became known as an encore on ECM’s biggest hit, “The Cologne Concert,” a representative work of Keith’s solo concerts. This song was actually properly composed and given a title, and it’s performed by a trio—the oldest surviving performance of this song! The concert features extremely rare tracks, and showcases Keith’s characteristic multi-instrumentalism from that era, including soprano saxophone and even marimba and other percussion instruments. You can fully enjoy the fascinating performances that demonstrate the explosive talent of the young Keith! However, the piano trio performances that form the heart of the concert are a dazzling array of styles, utilizing Keith’s then-peak technical skills to create highly difficult phrases that evoke 1950s bebop, while at other times they feature abstract and emotional improvisations reminiscent of 1960s modal and free jazz!
