This release features a full 2-hour and 46-minute recording of the March 2nd show at Osaka Festival Hall, the fourth of five performances from the 2026 Japan tour, which marked Mike Portnoy’s return to Japan for his “40th Anniversary Tour.” The recording was made from a high-quality audience master released by the taper. First, the recording from the front row, directly in front of the stage, was made with the latest digital equipment, resulting in a direct sound with each part clearly separated and the balance perfect, resulting in sound quality indistinguishable from a soundboard recording. As for the setlist, as Mike Portnoy had announced in a post just before the show, tonight’s setlist would be special, unlike any of the previous shows. The setlist was basically the same as the second day’s performance at EX THEATER ROPPONGI in Tokyo, with the first part being a career summary set that seemed to condense the 40th anniversary, performed randomly as in a normal concert, but also including “Take the Time” and “Panic Attack.” Then, in the second part, “PARASOMNIA,” they limited the set to six songs, similar to their performances at Budokan, but on this day, they introduced the epic 24-minute piece “Octavarium” as the finale of the main set. This, along with the 19-minute “The Shadow Man Incident” played before it and the 23-minute encore “A Change of Seasons,” resulted in a triple threat of epic pieces totaling over an hour at the end of the show, a configuration unique to this Osaka performance. Thus, this special set, which was the longest performance yet, is a must-listen for fans and a limited-edition memorial item only available during their visit to Japan.
