This 2-hour and 39-minute high-quality audience recording captures the first day of Mike Portnoy’s 2026 Japan tour, a landmark event marking his return to Japan for the “40th Anniversary Tour.” The recording is from the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on February 25th, and was made public by the owner. The camera, positioned slightly to the left of the stage in the first-floor seats, has virtually no obstructions, capturing the band members and screen visuals clearly, and using zoom appropriately to capture Portnoy’s drumming at various points. The concert was divided into two parts: the first part featured a career-spanning set centered around representative numbers from “METROPOLIS PT. 2: SCENES FROM A MEMORY,” and the second part included six songs from the previous year’s release “PARASOMNIA” and the epic “Octavarium,” with the encore concluding with the catchy “The Spirit Carries On” and “Pull Me Under.” The official live video of the same tour, “QUARANTIEME: LIVE A PARIS,” released the previous year, did not include 10 songs: 6 from “PARASOMNIA,” plus “Through My Words,” “Fatal Tragedy,” “The Enemy Inside,” and “Peruvian Skies.” Furthermore, the grand scale of songs like “Octavarium” can only be appreciated through video, and this release allows fans to enjoy the latest form of performance here in Japan, making it a must-have, Japan-exclusive memorial item.
