Description
This is a recording of the Nice concert on August 18, 1990, during the latter half of the Nude Tour. The audience recording has excellent sound quality, but it is incomplete and has some flaws. This time, it has been remastered and is a complete recording of the Nice concert, and it even includes the rehearsal, so we are releasing a truly complete Nice concert. Two masters were used for the main show. One is a very good audience recording with little crowd noise, which io remastered. It is an incomplete recording with several tens of seconds cut when the tape was changed to The Question Of U / Electric Man, and all encores from Partyman onwards are not included. The other is a recording titled Nice Can B So Nice, with the DAT intro cut out, the first 20 minutes being noisy with a young woman’s voice, and fade-outs on songs like Take Me With U and It Takes Two, but otherwise it is an almost complete recording. This time, based on the io remaster, the complete version has been made even more perfect by adding the intros and encores of “The Question Of U,” “Electric Man,” and “Partyman” from the complete recording. Almost all of the problems in the “Nice Can B So Nice” recording have been resolved using the io remaster, making this a definitive version. The content is also wonderful, with the appearance of The Flow’s rap in “The Future,” and the deviation from the usual development that begins with the piano segment following “The Question Of U,” where you can hear a beautiful, almost full-length performance of “Venus De Milo.” A short excerpt of “An Honest Man” is inserted just before “Ain’t No Way,” which is rare. And finally, the spectacular and amazing jam of “Baby I’m A Star” at the end! You can enjoy the best moment where Prince is truly alive and playing freely. The call and response of “N-I-C-E we know how to party” is repeated many times, and the performance continues for a whopping 20 minutes. The rehearsal recording from that day is so high-quality that it sounds like a soundboard recording, as there are no crowd noises. Prince gives chord progression instructions to the band while they play classic funk and rock songs with precision. “Them Changes” and “Who Knows” are reminiscent of Jimi Hendrix and Band of Gypsy, and Prince plays hard guitar and sings bluesy vocals on John Lee Hooker’s “I’m In The Mood.” The instrumental version of “The Future” has an interesting beginning, with improvised keyboards added in a jam-like style that is very cool and an arrangement you would never hear in the main show, and it lasts for 8 minutes. From there, presumably on piano, they play “Thieves In The Temple.” It starts slowly, and then the band comes in later, developing into a more funky version that is faithful to the studio version, making it an incredibly enjoyable performance. Prince sings in a scat-like, bluesy style, then transitions into a jam session on Rock Da House, with a phrase that sounds like an upbeat version of Cold Sweat, and after a short sound check, Rosie Gaines sings (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and I Never Loved A Man (The Way I Love You). And then, probably the only performance of this song, they play Natalie Cole’s 1975 hit, Insepable! Rosie sings, and Prince plays his melancholic guitar! It’s a beautiful five-minute masterpiece. This is no longer a rehearsal; it’s an after-show! Nude TourParc des Sports Charles-Ehrmann, Nice 18th August 1990 Disc 1 1. DAT Intro 2. The Future – The Flow 3. 1999 4. Housequake 5. Sexy Dancer 6.
