Description
This is an after-show recording from the Sign O’ The Times tour in Berlin. The content itself is fantastic, but the poor sound quality was a major drawback. It wasn’t a complete recording, there were dropouts, and there was quite noticeable tape hiss noise. However, this time, it has been remastered by io, resulting in an even higher quality. The cheers are certainly still there, but they convey the excitement of an after-show, and although there is a slight crackle, there is no hiss, Prince’s vocals and the backing band are much more prominent, making this a truly enjoyable remaster. Funksoulmusic has also applied noise reduction between tracks where possible. You are drawn in from the very beginning with Prince’s “Purple House,” a parody of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House.” Rather than a cover of James Brown’s “Body Heat,” Prince’s own version of the same title, a funky track with a strong jazz element, is a very cool performance. The nearly 15 minutes fly by in an instant. And the beautiful cover of The Temptations’ “Just My Imagination” is a piano-driven, jazzy rendition, and Prince’s falsetto is so enjoyable that it brings tears to your eyes. “It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night” also unfolds with a stunning jam session including “Six.” As a bonus, a different remaster of “Housequake,” processed using mvsep software, is included. Quasimodo aftershow recordings were something even 4Dafunk couldn’t handle, so it’s truly wonderful that they’ve raised the quality to this level; this release deserves applause.
