Description
A rare recording has emerged from a 1989 club gig in New Jersey featuring Johnny Depp with the Oddballs, captured in high-quality stereo audience recording! This rare recording captures Johnny Depp’s last band, the Oddballs, which, after numerous member changes, finally came together with saxophonist Jamie and backing vocalist Alison, performing at Murphy’s Row, a club in Long Beach, New Jersey, on April 14, 1989, in high-quality stereo audience recording! Recorded from a low-generation master, the sound has a wide range, with well-balanced vocals and all parts, and Johnny’s guitar resonating loudly and powerfully. The sound quality is exceptionally clear, making it a top-class recording for its time. Johnny is in excellent form on this day, and he plays the rearranged numbers, which he had rehearsed with his new band, very carefully. You can enjoy one of the finest performances of Johnny’s later years. This is a killer item that you won’t want to miss, featuring a setlist that excludes the usual live staples, including a rare track from the live side of the album “Incold Blood,” a remake (?) of Dion & the Belmonts’ hit “Runaround Sue” called “Pizzeria,” but it’s interrupted due to the guitar being out of tune and a tape change, resulting in the missing intros to “Sad Vacation,” “You Don’t Own Me,” and “Who’s Been Talking?”. The setlist includes Leslie Gore’s 60s hit “You Don’t Own Me” with Alison on lead vocals, Howlin’ Wolf’s blues classic “Who’s Been Talking?”, a blues number featuring Jamie’s saxophone “You Can Walk My Dog,” and finally a Chuck Berry cover “Little Queenie”!
