US-edited Capitol Original Album 2-CD Deluxe Edition The US Capitol compilation album “Rarities” was released in 1980 as a compilation of singles and EPs not included on albums as a bonus disc in the complete album box set “The Beatles Collection.” However, in the US, many of the tracks had already been included on albums through Capitol’s own compilations, so it wasn’t considered “rare” in terms of content. Therefore, in addition to tracks not appearing on albums for the first time, it was released as a standalone Capitol compilation album, similar to those from the 1960s, adding alternate versions and mixes that were difficult to obtain in the US. For this reason, it was not released in the UK, but it was released in Japan, Australia, Canada, France, and other countries. This compilation album, which was the catalyst for the growing interest in different versions and stereo/mono mixes across various countries at the time, was never released on CD. Although many tracks have since been released on CD in some form, it remains an indispensable reference album for sound sources, not only because of the stereo/mono differences, but also because of the different editing and separation differences between the UK and US versions of the same stereo version, as well as the unique analog sound differences that differ from the unified digital remasters. Tracks like “Penny Lane” with its trumpet ending and the mixed mix of “I Am the Walrus” are unique recordings not found elsewhere, and “There’s a Place” and “Missouri,” which were not included on the US album, have different stereo mixes than the UK version, allowing listeners to appreciate the unique sound differences of the analog era. For this CD release, in addition to a complete reproduction from the original record, it includes 13 unique recordings from around the world, which are rare in the US, in line with the album’s concept, in addition to the 14 tracks (15 tracks) originally included on the record. The Australian stereo mix of “I Want to Hold Your Hand,” the hi-hat opening of “All My Loving,” the stereo mix of “I’m Down” (which was only available in Japan in the 1960s), the German “Strawberry Fields Forever” in real stereo, and the UK-exclusive “Tomorrow Never Knows” (Mat. 1) have all been deliberately transferred to CD from the original vinyl records. The subtle differences in sound unique to analog are faithfully reproduced. CD2 features “Capitol Unique Mixes,” a selection of original mixes from Capitol in the 1960s. In the official box set “THE U.S. ALBUMS,” most of the CD versions of each album have been replaced with 2009 remastered audio in both stereo and mono, with some exceptions, and the pseudo-stereo and original mixes from the 1960s are currently unavailable. Here, all 28 tracks are included via direct transfer from the original vinyl records. This collection features unique Capitol mixes, including tracks never officially released on CD, such as “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “I Am the Walrus,” and “Baby Your Rich Man.” It includes reissued audio from the 1980 original analog release, edited by Capitol Records USA. Furthermore, this newly edited, expanded, and revised edition includes additional rarity tracks not included in the original release, featuring 28 unique Capitol-exclusive mixes that were previously sealed away.
