The “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” soundboard series, making its debut, has finally landed in South America! A 2CD set is set to be released that will reveal the details of the previously unknown Venezuelan performance!! Two performances are permanently preserved in this release: stereo soundboard recordings of the “Caracas performances on January 15th and 16th, 1983”. As those who have taken the time to read this article may know, in recent years, superb soundboard recordings of the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” have been unearthed one after another. Until now, the “HIDE YOUR SHEEP Tour” had only featured the first half, the North American leg, but this time it has finally moved on to the South American leg. To understand the situation, let’s first take a look at the overview of their activities at the time. 1982: April 14th – “DIVER DOWN” released; July 14th – August 21st: North America #1 (26 shows) ← *CLEVELAND 1982 and others; September 1st – 25th: North America #2 (17 shows) ← *PHOENIX 1982 and others; October 7th – December 11th: North America #3 (38 shows) ← TORONTO 1982 and others. 1983: January 14th – February 12th: South America (15 shows) ← ★HERE★; May 29th: US Festivals – The Caracas show date issue was finally confirmed. This was Van Halen during the “DIVER DOWN” era. The tour accompanying the album had come to a close in 1982, and 1983 was a special year. It featured the only “South America” tour in Van Halen’s history and an appearance at the century’s biggest event, the “US Festivals”. Of these, the Caracas performance featured in this film was also the opening night of the “South America” tour. However, there have been various theories about this Caracas performance, and no conclusion has been reached for over 40 years. This newly unearthed soundboard is amazing in its content, but it is also a new discovery that settles the issue of the dates. To put it simply… Details of “South America” - January 14th: Caracas performance * January 15th: Caracas performance ←★Main feature of this film★ & conventional footage * January 16th: Caracas performance ←★Bonus feature of this film★ – January 21st – February 1st: Brazil (9 performances) – February 5th: Uruguay performance – February 11th + 12th: Argentina (2 performances) There were three consecutive performances in Caracas, and there have been various theories such as the “15th/16th/17th” theory and the “16th/17th/18th” theory, which have caused confusion, but recent research and the results of this new discovery have confirmed it as above. The biggest issue is that “what was previously said to be the 16th was actually the 15th.” The previous pro-shot recordings were also “actually from the 15th.” This newly discovered leaked master significantly surpasses the previous best, so don’t underestimate it by thinking, “Oh, it’s the same date as before.” This newly discovered soundboard is completely different from the previous pro-shot audio, and the quality is incomparably higher. Anyone who has experienced even one of the previous “Roy” newly discovered soundboard series will understand, but the raw performance sound comes pouring out as if it were directly connected to the mixing console. While previous soundboards such as pro-shots had the rawness of South America, they were still overlaid with loud crowd noise and processed for broadcast. This work is an ultra-direct soundboard that is completely unprocessed, which could be called an earlier stage. And even more important is the freshness of the master. After all, it was digitized directly from the master recorded at the mixing console on site. There are no traces of dubbing, and it is incomparably fresher and more vivid than previous broadcast materials. This is an extremely rare recording unlike anything in previous series. While we’ve enjoyed such incredible soundboard recordings in previous series, this time, it’s a restarted “South America” tour, so the setlist is significantly different. The third performance, “January 16th,” which is included as a bonus, only had a portion of the show recorded, but this release includes everything that exists. However, the recording part is the key point. The setlist for the “South America” tour was different from 1982, and “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” “Little Dreamer,” and “Mean Street,” which were not heard in previous leaked soundboard series, were performed. Roy, the band’s engineer, apparently wanted to check these changed parts, so he focused on recording the substituted songs, and in this release, you can hear two takes of each in superb soundboard quality. The ZZ Top cover “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers” is especially rare. It is an iconic song that was played almost exclusively on the “South America” tour. This is the latest installment in the leaked soundboard series by Roy, a person involved with the band who has been releasing shocking works one after another. This release boasts an absolutely superb quality that far surpasses conventional pro-shot audio, while also offering plenty of new elements not found in previous installments of the series. In every sense, it’s an absolute must-listen and must-have. This is a stereo soundboard recording of the “Caracas performance on January 15th/16th, 1983.” It’s a leaked soundboard recording made by the engineer at the time, “Roy,” and is completely different from conventional pro-shot audio. The quality is incomparably better, and it’s an absolute must-have that also includes the extremely rare track “Beer Drinkers & Hell Raisers,” which was never heard in previous leaked series.
