This is a mono audience recording of a 1978 Maxis concert featuring Johnny Thunders, Jerry Nolan, Arthur Cain, and Steve Dior as The Delinquents! Johnny Thunders, who released his solo debut album “So Alone,” assembled the legendary band The Delinquents with former New York Dolls/Heartbreakers drummer Jerry Nolan, who was then active in Idles, and fellow former Dolls Arthur Cain and Steve Dior for a handful of shows. This incredibly rare recording is here! While a 1979 live recording of this band was previously available on the label’s defunct albums “You Can’t Sit Down” and “No Lips,” this is the first time the 1978 recording has been released! This complete, mono audience recording captures the two-stage concert held at Maxis Kansas City on December 31, 1978. The sound quality is standard for the time. During the first set, the vocals are a bit distant, likely due to the PA system being too loud, but the second set recovers and the vocals are clearly captured. Overall, the recording is well-balanced and has a solid sound quality. As it was New Year’s Eve, the set kicked off with Johnny’s “Happy New Year” call. Steve sang lead vocals on a cover of the 1960s doo-wop group The Dovels’ hit “You Can’t Sit Down,” and later singles released by Jerry Nolan under his solo name, “Pretty Baby” and “Take a Chance.” Johnny also sang lead vocals on “Chatterbox,” “Subway Train,” “Born to Lose,” and “Chinese Rocks,” while Steve took the lead on the Heartbreakers’ “Can’t Keep My Eyes On You.” The last song of the second set, “I Can Tell,” features Flipper, the vocalist of Senders, who often performs with Johnny, on vocals, and from “Born To Lose” onwards, a saxophonist joins in, allowing you to fully enjoy a rare party live performance celebrating the New Year!
