Description
A rare recording of a 1981 New York performance by Johnny, Jerry, Walter, and Luigi, featuring the unconventional Heartbreakers, has arrived! This rare recording features a high-quality stereo audience recording of a gig by the unconventional Heartbreakers, featuring Johnny, Walter, and Jerry, with Luigi playing bass instead of Billy. Remastered from the original Low Generator, the recording sounds almost mono, but each part is well-balanced and offers a reasonably clear sound quality for the time. Any pitch discrepancies due to the master have been carefully corrected. Only a few seconds of the ending of “Chinese Rocks” are missing, but the rest is fine. The set opened with “In Cold Blood” from their album “In Cold Blood,” produced by legendary producer Jimmy Miller, which they would record about a year later. The set included “Alone In A Crowd” from 1985’s “Que Sera Sera,” “Endless Party,” a track they’d played since their Dolls days, a rare band version of “I Like To Play Games” featuring Link Wray’s classic “Apache,” “Who Do Voodoo” from “Too Much Junkie Business,” released only on cassette the following year, and the 1978 single “Dead Or Alive.” Luigi, who played bass in place of Billy, also performed frequently with Johnny, demonstrating his masterful playing. Including tracks from the classic “L.A.M.F.”, the set featured plenty of performances, including the perfectly synchronized interplay between Walter and Johnny, and the masterful drumming of Jerry Nolan, the band’s driving force!
