Deep Purple resurrected in the ’80s, but Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Gillan’s honeymoon didn’t last long, and their true potential was limited. This work’s Albuquerque performance was the 13th. With the engine fully warmed up after a number of performances, it was the perfect timing with no sign of tour fatigue. This work is a new masterpiece that allows you to fully experience such a show. It is a complete live album recorded simultaneously not only with the main act DEEP PURPLE but also with the opening act GIUFFRIA. And the sound is overwhelming. Speaking of coupling titles with GIUFFRIA, the week before “LONG BEACH 1985 1ST NIGHT MARCO MOIR MASTER (Shades 2397)” is still fresh in my memory, but this work is even clearer and more vivid. It is a recording of an unknown recorder that has been known for some time, but this time it was digitized from the young generation (apparently the original or 1st generation) tape. As expected, it is not so tightly attached that it can be mistaken for a sound board, but the core is sufficiently on and powerful, and it jumps into your ears with delicate details. Although it absorbs the hall’s resonance, it’s mysteriously transparent, never cloudy or muddy. Rather, its transparency creates a crystal-clear brilliance. While the previous album, “LONG BEACH 1985 1ST NIGHT,” was also a masterful “Marco Moir Collection,” the brilliance of this work is clearly even greater. It’s hard to imagine an unknown taper could have recorded something like this… (In fact, perhaps this work is also a “Marco Moir” work, simply because the recording was lost!?). Another reminiscent of “Marco Moir” is the thorough recording of the opening act, GIUFFRIA. Of course, this was also unearthed via the same route as the main DEEP PURPLE edition, and it’s recorded with a dazzling, brilliant sound. The experience of hearing that gorgeous GIUFFRIA world in beautiful sound is irreplaceable, making this a “shadowy eyeball” recording that goes beyond mere bonus material. This live album captures both the culmination of a reunited DEEP PURPLE performance, which ended in a flash, and the precious live performance of GIUFFRIA with a dazzling sound. Despite being “unknown recorder,” this new masterpiece surpasses even the most accomplished collections with quality surpassing that of a masterful recording.
